Zell is located in southeast Bavaria , in the northern part of the Rottal-Inn district . The district road PAN36 to Zell branches off from the federal road 20 between Falkenberg (2 km) and Malgersdorf (4 km). The distance on the road to the neighboring cities is 12 km to Eggenfelden , 21 km to Pfarrkirchen and 22 km to Landau an der Isar .

history

The relatively well-preserved Viereckschanze between Reiser and Schernberg in the direction of Sulzbach, sometimes also called Keltenschanze , testifies to pre-Christian settlement in the immediate vicinity. In early ecclesiastical documents, at the time of the reign of Bishop Waldrichs von Passau , the place is described (around 790) as a cellula belonging to the Passau bishopric and drawn on a map. The two Hochstifte Salzburg and Regensburg directly bordered here, which, according to tradition, led to friction and tensions between the three over the scattered holdings in the area and thus gave Cellula a strategic importance. The original hermitage or hermitage , which belonged to what was then the Rindpah monastery (Rimbach) , developed into a monastery and finally a seat of the nobility.

Another documentary mention comes from the year 1140, the place with the castle Celle was at that time the seat and Hofmark of the noble family of the de Celle or the Zeller . The place name was written as Sella , Celle and Cella in the Middle Ages . The current late Gothic parish church of St. Ulrich was built according to estimates in the 2nd half of the 14th century. In the 15th century, the place is called "Ploßen-Zell", it was then owned by the Visler, the aristocratic family residing in Malgersdorf at that time. In 1533 the Hofmark was taken over by the Closen zu Gern, later ownership was passed to the von Tattenbach in a way that is no longer known today . Regular school lessons took place from 1773. In the early twenties of the 19th century, the Hofmark changed hands one last time, it went to the Counts Arco . With the reforms of 1848, Zell became an independent municipality. In 1898 Zell was raised to an independent parish. In contrast to the neighboring towns of Malgersdorf and Falkenberg, the Second World War ended silently for Zell on May 1, 1945 . In the course of the regional reform in Bavaria on May 1, 1978, the previously independent municipality with approx. 530 inhabitants was incorporated into Falkenberg. Franz Pichlmeier, elected in 1972, was the last mayor of Zell.
