Location of Zierau in Saxony-Anhalt |
Zierau is a district of the village of Jeggeleben and the town of Kalbe (Milde) in the Altmark district of Salzwedel in Saxony-Anhalt .
geography
The Altmark church village of Zierau is located about 13 kilometers northwest of the town of Kalbe (Milde).
history
Zierau is first mentioned as Sirow in 1321 , when the von Chartow family sold the Schulzenhof in the village to those von der Schulenburg . In the Landbuch der Mark Brandenburg from 1375 it is listed as Syrowe . Further mentions are 1394 tzyrowe , 1541 Sirow , 1551 Zirow and 1687 Zierow .
Origin of the place name
Franz Mertens suggests two derivations: from wendischen zurowy for bilberry or bickberry . The ending -ow indicates an abundance. So the village would be a blueberry nest . Or the root word would be ciry, zirawa for pastureland . It was called pastureland .
Incorporations
On July 1, 1950, the municipality of Zierau from the district of Salzwedel was incorporated into the municipality of Jeggeleben. On January 1, 2011, Jeggeleben was incorporated into Kalbe (Milde). So Zierau came on the same day as a district to the new village Jeggeleben and the city of Kalbe (Milde).
