Zierloris ( Charmosyna ) are a genus of small to medium-sized, slender parrots found in the New Hebrides , New Britain , New Ireland , New Guinea , New Caledonia , the Solomon Islands , Indonesia and the Fiji Islands.
features
Zierloris have long, pointed tails, which in some species can be longer and in others shorter than the wings. The beak is always red and many species are very colorful with red, green, yellow, blue or purple ornamental feathers. There is slight sexual dimorphism, and these parrots' tongues are long enough for them to lick their eyes. The juvenile Loris differ little from the females, but they have a shorter tail.
habitat
Zierloris inhabit mountain rainforests but also plantations or areas in the lowlands near human settlements.
food
The diet consists of fruits, nectar and pollen.
In human care
Zierloris can be grown in human care. However, they are prone to diseases such as aspergillosis and candidiasis .
Danger
Four ornamental species are threatened by bird malaria, storms, rats and habitat destruction. The ornamental palm tree is classified as endangered by the IUCN . The red panty is extremely rare. The Diademzierlori has not been reliably detected for decades. The burulori was rediscovered in 2014 after being last sighted in 1980.
