Tin diphosphate is a colorless, odorless solid. It is soluble in concentrated acids. During thermal decomposition above 400 ° C, phosphorus oxides (e.g. P 2 O 5 ) are formed as decomposition products
use
Tin (II) pyrophosphate is used as an emulsifier for fats and oils and as a water softener in detergents and dishwashing detergents and toothpaste. It is also used in baking powder and in cheese preparation. In hydrogen peroxide , it acts as a stabilizer.
structure
The crystal structure of tin (II) pyrophosphate contains isolated P 2 O 7 groups and tin in the structural spaces. The compound shows a reversible phase transition at 623 K. At room temperature, the substance is present as a triclinic β-phase, while at higher temperatures the monoclinic α-phase arises.
