The Zirknitz or the Zirknitzbach is a left tributary of the Möll .

The Zirknitz and the Zirknitztal lie in the Goldberg group south of the main Alpine ridge in the area of the community Großkirchheim . Their source rivers are the Große Zirknitz and the Kleine Zirknitz .

The Große Zirknitz rises west of the Alteck in the Großer Zirknitz valley . The Kleine Zirknitz rises south of the Alteck in the Kleiner Zirknitz valley .

The catchment area is 40.2 km², of which the Große Zirknitz has a share of 16.2 km² and the Kleine Zirknitz a share of 13.4 km².

The highest peaks in the Zirknitztal are Roter Mann ( 3,095 m above sea level ), Sandkopf (3,090 m) and Goldbergspitze (3,073 m).

economy

Only a few people live in the valley (the Großkirchheim district of Zirknitz had 37 inhabitants in 2019) and it is not used very intensively for agriculture or tourism. However, the waters are integrated into the Fragant power plant group . The large lake in particular was artificially enlarged for this purpose. Gold was mined up until the 19th century, as evidenced by the pay table at 2114 m, where the miners were rewarded.
