Ziroli Winterstein

Ziroli Winterstein (born April 14, 1954 in Singen (Hohentwiel) , † July 30, 2007 in Hanau ) was a German jazz guitarist in the field of gypsy swing .

Winterstein, son of the guitarist Prinzo Winterstein and brother of the guitarist Holzmanno Winterstein , experienced childhood and adolescence as one of eight children over the summer “on the road” with his parents' caravan, in winter on the Hartenberg in Mainz . As a rhythm guitarist he has belonged to the Häns'che Weiss group since 1972 and to the band of his cousin Titi Winterstein since 1978 , with whom he recorded numerous records and also performed in the USA. After Lulu Reinhardt left , he became the solo guitarist there. He also performed in a duo with his cousin Biréli Lagrène and opened a number of concerts for Paco de Lucía , Al Di Meola & John McLaughlin in the 1980s . From 1993 to 1996 he played as solo guitarist in the Gadjo group `` salut! '' With Rüdiger Wilke (saxophone), Gerold Heitbaum (guitar), Heinz Grah - later Reinhard Glöder (double bass) and Helen Sachs (vocals) approx 200 concerts. His compositions "Farina", "Valse a Häns'che" and "Valse a Hojok" are immortalized on the "salut!" CD "Green and Orange", released in 1996 by "Edition Collage". After 1997 he was active with his Ziroli Winterstein Ensemble , which also included the guitarists Vano Bamberger and Terrangi Bamberger. This performed together with the vocal quartet The Funny Valentines in 2002 at the Montreux Jazz Festival . After Tom Lord , he was involved in ten recordings in the field of jazz between 1972 and 1985.
