Zoe Wees

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Zoe Wees (* 2002 ) is a German singer and songwriter from Hamburg.

Private, youth and education

Wees grew up in Hamburg with her single mother and attended the elementary and district school Alter Teichweg in Dulsberg , which she left prematurely for her music career. In her childhood and elementary school, Wees suffered from rolando epilepsy , which led to loss of control and depression . In the meantime, Wees says that she has the disease "well under control" even without medication, even if her face still goes numb in a few moments and the feeling can trigger panic attacks , although she knows that she will not have another attack.

Artistic career

Wees discovered music completely for himself at the age of 14. Her music teacher recognized her potential and encouraged her by, among other things, changing timetables for working on her voice.

Start with The Voice Kids

In early 2017, Wees took part in the 5th season of the music talent show The Voice Kids . Wees joined the team of pop singer Sasha in the “Blind Auditions” . In the "Sing-Offs", the third of five phases in the competition, Wees was eliminated. During the casting show, Wees met British singer-songwriter and world star Ed Sheeran , who was impressed by her:

"Zoe has a voice that is absolutely forward and she has a special presence."

- Ed Sheeran

According to Wees, it was her idea to "enter the music industry via a casting show". This was fun, but in the end it was “more appealing” for her to “build a career on her own”. Wees used the social networks Instagram and TikTok for this , on which she attracted attention with cover versions of Lewis Capaldi , James Bay and Leonard Cohen, among others . In 2018, Wees began working in Hamburg with the producer team Patrick Pyke Salmy and Ricardo Muñoz as well as the songwriters Emma Rosen and René Miller.

First single control

By the beginning of 2020, Wees had accumulated around 120,000 followers on Instagram and TikTok. At the end of March 2020 she released her debut single Control . In the piano - ballad Wees processed their personal experiences from childhood with the Rolando-epilepsy. The song is a thank you to her former teacher who was of great help to her during that time. The single entered the Swiss charts at number 96 on May 24, 2020 , and five days later it was listed for the first time in the German single charts at number 63 . In the following weeks the song also reached placements in the Austrian charts and the Ultratop charts in Belgium . In addition to the chart successes, British and French media discovered the song for themselves. Stars like Lewis Capaldi, Dean Lewis or Jessie J were enthusiastic about Wees' voice and single.

Wees is currently working on her debut EP , and another single will be released this summer. In her songs, the Wees, who describes herself as "reserved", deal with what she normally cannot talk about.
