Zoltan Sebescen ( Hungarian Sebestyén Zoltán [ ˈzoltaːn ˈʃɛbɛʃceːn ]; born October 1, 1975 in Ehingen ) is a German football player who is currently active at TV Unterboihingen.

Athletic career

Club career

Sebescen began playing soccer in the youth team of the Stuttgarter Kickers in 1982 , where he made the leap to the first team in the 1994/95 season. For the 1999/2000 season he moved to the Bundesliga for VfL Wolfsburg . In 2001 he went to Bayer 04 Leverkusen . With Bayer he was in the final of the Champions League against Real Madrid in 2002 , was runner-up in the 2001/02 season and reached the cup final against FC Schalke 04 , in which he was not used.

After numerous knee operations, Sebescen has not played a Bundesliga game since February 2003 and lost his regular place. For the club he was used in seven games of the reserve team, in which he scored a goal. In 2004 his contract ran out, after which Sebescen left the club. He ended his career on August 16, 2005. The persistent knee problems were caused by a borreliosis infection, a disease that can be transmitted by tick bites . In total, he was on the field 72 times in the Bundesliga and scored twelve goals.

Selection bets

He played an international match for the senior national team . Under national coach Erich Ribbeck he played the first half of the game against the Netherlands on February 23, 2000 . He was substituted for Sebastian Deisler originally intended for the starting line-up , who also made his debut in that game. The game ended with a 1: 2 defeat for the German team, Sebescen was involved in both goals conceded and was given unusually poor marks during the game by TV reporter Gerd Rubenbauer and then in the press. The real peculiarity, however, was the nomination of the previously largely unknown Sebescens by Ribbeck against a top team like the Netherlands and the fact that he had to play in an unfamiliar defensive position. With Sebescen, a Wolfsburg was appointed to the German national team for the first time.

He had already worn the German colors in the A2 selection from 1999 . By 2000, Sebescen was used three times in this team and scored one goal.

Coaching career

From July 1, 2007 to June 30, 2009, Sebescen was team boss (youth coordinator) for the offspring of the Stuttgarter Kickers .

Trivia

Sebescens ancestors come from Skorenovac (Hungarian Székelykeve , Ger. Skorenowatz ) in Vojvodina , the northern province of Serbia, in which a Hungarian minority also lives. In March 2000 he was voted “Favorite of the Month” on the Harald Schmidt Show .
