action

In a New York hospital, incidents are increasing in which, under mysterious circumstances, parts of the body and entire organs are stolen. When one day the heart of a patient who has just died is brutally removed, the stunned management of the clinic decides to investigate the matter with Professor Drydock. In coordination with his assistant Lori, a doctor of medicine and anthropologist , the professor hushed up the unpleasant events in order not to endanger the good reputation of the clinic, but plans to catch the culprit. A little later they catch the nurse Turan, who comes from the Moluccas , who is about to eat a freshly removed heart, but prefers to jump suicidally out of the window for fear of the police and dies a little later. When the dying man is asked about his motives, he simply replies: “Kito. Kito ordered it! ”.

After this incident, the professor and Lori were taken over by the FBI agent of the health authority, Dr. Peter Chandler, who believes there is a connection with similarly motivated cannibalism cases in other US cities. Lori soon connects with the perpetrators a people of Southeast Asian origin who live on the "Divine Moluccan Island" Kito, practice a sacrificial cult and presumably pay homage to a deity with blood sacrifices .

FBI agent Peter Chandler then decides to visit the island in the South Pacific with his colleague George and his girlfriend, reporter Susan Kelly . Together with Lori, you want to work as a scientific advisor, the American surgeon Dr. Find O'Brian. The scientist supports them on their expedition to the “uncivilized savages” with a local guide, Molotto, and four porters. Their trip is supposed to take them by boat to the island of Kito, but due to an engine failure they land on a neighboring island unexpectedly. Hindered from continuing their journey, they spend the night in a tent camp, but to their horror the next morning they find the cruelly carved remains of a porter along with a Kito symbol. Chandler concludes from this that one is already on the desired island and that one should be deliberately led to another island. Molotto is silent.

The American expedition then investigates the island and comes across armed cannibal natives in the jungle who hastily eat a porter who has previously been trapped. Break off another exploration of the island and return to camp, where Dr. Call O'Brian for help. He promises to pick her up the next day at an abandoned mission station three miles away. During the night, however, the expedition members are attacked and the other porters are liquidated, so that in addition to Molotto, only the four Americans begin the march to the mission. On the way they are attacked again by the indigenous people, Susan subsequently kidnapped and George even killed and eaten. Molotto, Peter and Lori, however, are overwhelmed by the cannibals when suddenly a crowd of living dead drives the cannibals away with their presence.

The trio arrives at the mission station to save them, where the mad scientist O'Brian greets the three and his entourage. He advises Peter and Lori to leave the dangerous island immediately, but Peter refuses the offer and secretly returns to O'Brian with Lori. He prepares the captured Susan, who somehow came into his care, for a complex brain transplant, but is interrupted in his work by the FBI agent. The doctor, who assembles artificial monsters from body parts and abuses the locals for his own purposes, discovers them and, with the help of his servant Molotto, takes Peter prisoner. Meanwhile, Lori manages to escape into the jungle, where she is to be overwhelmed by the natives and sacrificed in a solemn ritual. During this ceremony, however, a round sacrificial stone, with which Lori is tied, leans horizontally, and the cannibals refrain from ritual murder and worship her as a new deity.

As the new goddess of the locals, she can free Peter from the clutches of the scientist. Peter had previously succeeded in eliminating Molotto in a duel until he was violently attacked by zombies himself. With the help of Lori's cannibal friends, they manage to neutralize all walking corpses, and to catch and kill O'Brian. At the end of the film, the emigrated doctor is consumed by the cannibals and his property burned while Lori and Peter plan their retreat and rescue from the island.

Seizure and Publications

The VHS version of zombies among cannibals by the distributor Eurovideo was banned and confiscated in 1986 by a resolution of the AG Tiergarten because of its "violence-glorifying character". A shortened VHS version of the film by the video distribution company GM-Film was then released, which, despite shortened dialogues and storylines, nevertheless landed on the index - and that without a single splatter scene.

Another shortened version on DVD by the KSM-Krause and Schneider GbR label was released on May 12, 2004 for the age group 16 and over.

Various versions of the film were made and distributed internationally. A version called Doctor Butcher, MD was created for the United States

Radio play editing

The director Jörg Buttgereit based the plot of his radio play Video Nasty, produced for WDR in 2005, on zombies among cannibals and with this homage bowed to the video store and splatter film culture of the 80s.

Reviews

"Disgusting scrap film from the cheap Italian production that literally cannibals the zombie scam."
