The Zwölferspitze is 2562  m above sea level. A. high mountain in the Stubai Alps in Tyrol , Austria . The name of the mountain is derived from the fact that the sun (seen from Neustift in the Stubaital ) is exactly above the mountain at noon (cf. Zwölfer (mountain name) ).

Location and surroundings

The Zwölferspitze rises between the Stubai Valley in the northwest and the Pinnistal in the southeast. The neighboring mountain in the northeast is the Elferspitze ( 2505  m ) , separated by the 2336  m high Zwölfernieder crossing . To the south, the ridge continues to the 2661  m high Schafspitze and then further south-west via Kelderer ( 2694  m ), Manteler ( 2811  m ) and Schaufelspitzl ( 2833  m ) to the 3277  m high Habicht . The Zwölferspitze is a double-peaked mountain, the main peak is preceded by a few meters lower secondary peak to the northwest, which also bears the summit cross .

ways

The Zwölferspitze can be reached from Neustift in the Stubaital, from the mountain station of the Elferlifte panorama cable car or from the Pinnistal . The normal route leads from the Zwölfernieder as a marked trail over the northeast ridge to the pre-summit with the summit cross, the further course along the ridge to the main summit is pathless. This ascent requires easy climbing at difficulty level II . Another possibility of ascent leads pathless over the north ridge (II). From the east, the summit can be reached through the channel between the main and sub-summits (I).

The Zwölfer was first climbed by Carl Gsaller around 1870 .
