action

Bettina Finke is about to divorce her husband, who cheated on her. Since she worked part-time in his practice, she is now without a job and has to take care of her two children, the young Lisa and the early adolescent, stubborn Tom, on her own. She plans to take her children to Italy as a distraction and visit a friend there. Before that, she wants to stop by her great-uncle Gustav in Bavaria, whom she has not seen for 20 years. He owns a small farm in the Alps.

On the way to the mountains, Bettina breaks down and her car is towed to Martin's small workshop, with whom Bettina was in love as a little girl. In her childhood she spent every summer with Uncle Gustav on the farm. She is all the more upset when she learns that Gustav died a few days ago shortly after her last phone call. Just like that, Bettina arrives at the funeral. At Gustav's grave she meets her long-time loyal friend Karl, who ran the farm with Gustav and planned to go to the old people's home with him. The administrator of the estate, Dr. Steinbach, who informed Bettina that she had inherited the entire farm according to the last will of her grandfather.

Bettina plans to sell the farm immediately, as she only wanted to make a short stopover in the mountains. The only prospective buyer, however, belongs to a group that wants to tear down the yard and build a gas station on the ground. Bettina, on the other hand, definitely wants to keep the farm and only sell it to a nature lover. The representative of the group, Alexander Schubert, goes to Bettina and introduces himself to her as a writer who wants to buy a farm in the area. Little by little, he gains Bettina's trust. Martin, who repairs Bettina's car, also takes a liking to her and soon distrusts Alexander, who with a convertible and expensive suits does not correspond to the image of a writer. At the same time, Martin gets stubborn Tom excited about country life and takes him on a balloon ride. The younger Lisa is entranced by the life in the country anyway, especially since she is collecting material for her first novel.

Bettina's patronizing mother Sophie, who is a family lawyer and represented Bettina in her divorce, appears in the yard and urges Bettina to sell the property. Although various prospective buyers get in touch, Karl manages to scare off the prospective buyers every time with hair-raising stories of rats and snakes. He wants Bettina to stay, and over time she, too, likes the idea of life in the mountains. While having dinner with Alexander, she sees the logo of the company on his bunch of keys that wanted to have the gas station built on the property. She then explains to Alexander that the purchase will not take place and separates from him. She goes to Martin, throws pebbles at his window like before and at the end they both kiss. Suddenly, numerous fire engines drive past them towards the farm. The barn is on fire and it soon becomes clear that an arsonist was at work. At the time of the fire, the Berlin couple Rodenberg were in a hot air balloon and were filming the fire from above. The pictures also show Alexander, who was the arsonist. Bettina confronts him with the pictures and files a complaint against Alexander. When she comes back to the farm, Martin and his colleagues are in the process of rebuilding the barn. Tom also takes part in the construction work. Lisa, on the other hand, has finished her first novel, which will be called Two Hearts and an Edelweiss . Bettina and Martin hug each other and kiss. Bettina no longer wants to go to Italy because she no longer knows what to do there.

criticism

For the film service , Two Hearts and an Edelweiss was a "(TV) love romance in front of a romantic mountain backdrop, which shows an initially insecure woman at the beginning of a new beginning." kino.de found that the film title "awaits a Degeto romance in front of an Alpine panorama ." [lets], the story […] [however] turns out to be a lively play with Heimatfilm clichés [turns out] ":" Helmut Metzger doesn't stage the lively plot at ProSieben's pace, but thanks to the various slapstick scenes, things are much faster than usual."

“No question about it, the story is as thin as mountain air, but we want to accept that as a lightly told country comedy. Conclusion: an ideal world and ideal goose - whoever likes it, "wrote TV Spielfilm .
