Zygmunt Kamiński (born February 22, 1933 in Wzgórze-Bełżyce near Lublin , Poland ; † May 1, 2010 in Stettin , Poland) was Archbishop of Stettin-Cammin .

Life

After studying Catholic theology at the diocesan seminary , Zygmunt Kamiński received the sacrament of ordination on December 22, 1956 and was incardinated in the Archdiocese of Lublin by Bishop Piotr Kałwa . He was then chaplain in Piaski (1957-1959). Between 1959 and 1961 he studied at the Faculty of Canon Law at the Catholic University of Lublin , where he also received his doctorate in 1971. He was pastor in the parish of the Most Holy Heart of Jesus in Lublin (1961–1963) and in St. Theresa in Lublin (1963–1966). In 1966 he worked in the Lublin church administration as a notary, secretary for youth work and catechesis. In 1975 he became director of the main pastoral department of the diocese.

Pope Paul VI appointed him on October 28, 1975 titular bishop of Midica and appointed him auxiliary bishop in Lublin. The Archbishop of Lublin, Bolesław Pylak , gave him episcopal ordination on November 30th of the same year. Co- consecrators were the bishops Jan Mazur , Józef Drzazga , Jan Gurda and Marian Jozef Rechowicz . Between 1975 and 1984 he was also vicar general , dean of the cathedral chapter of Lublin, lecturer in canon law at the seminary and the theological faculty of the Catholic University of Lublin. As bishop he was also pastor of the cathedral parish in Lublin from 1976 to 1984.

On January 10, 1984 he called Pope John Paul II. To Coadjutor Bishop in the Diocese of Plock , where, after the death of the local diocesan bishop Bogdan Marian Sikorski took on Feb. 4, 1988 its successor as Resident Bishop. On May 1, 1999, John Paul II appointed him Archbishop of Stettin-Cammin and thus Metropolitan of the eponymous ecclesiastical province . The official inauguration ( enthronement ) in Stettin took place on May 23 of the same year.

He held various offices in the Polish Bishops' Conference; He was chairman of the committee for the regulation of the relations of state and church, member of the joint commission of the Polish episcopate and the government, member of the economic council of the Polish bishops' conference and vice-chairman of the association "Wspólnota Polska". Kamiński was also the chairman of the Legal Committee of the Polish Bishops' Conference.

On February 21, 2009 Pope Benedict XVI. Kamiński's resignation due to reasons of age. Until the official inauguration of his successor Andrzej Dzięga, he headed the Archdiocese of Stettin-Cammin as Apostolic Administrator .

On October 24, 2009 he was awarded an honorary doctorate from the University of Szczecin .
