Ferris Jacobs junior (born March 20, 1836 in Delhi , New York , † August 30, 1886 in White Plains , New York) was an American lawyer , officer and politician . Between 1881 and 1883 he represented New York State in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Ferris Jacobs junior attended the Delaware Academy in Delhi and the Delaware Literary Institute in Franklin . In 1856 he graduated from Williams College , Williamstown . He studied law . After receiving his license to practice law in 1859, he began practicing in Delhi. During the civil war he served in the Union Army . On August 26, 1861, he entered the 3rd New York Cavalry , where he held the rank of captain . He was promoted to Lieutenant Colonel in the 26th New York Cavalry on March 15, 1865 and on March 13, 1865 to Brevet - Brigadier General of the Volunteers. After the war he was back in Delhi as a lawyer. He was elected District Attorney in 1865 and 1866. Politically, he belonged to the Republican Party . In 1880 he participated as a delegate at the Republican National Convention in Chicago .

In the 1880 congressional elections for the 47th Congress , Jacobs was elected to the United States House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the 21st  constituency of New York , where he succeeded David Wilber on March 4, 1881 . Since he on a run again in 1882 renounced, he left the after March 3, 1883 Congress of.

After his time at Congress he went back to his practice as a lawyer. He died on August 30, 1886 in White Plains and was then buried in Woodland Cemetery in Delhi.
