Irwin Delmore Davidson (born January 2, 1906 in New York City , † August 1, 1981 in New Rochelle , New York ) was an American lawyer and politician . In 1955 and 1956 he represented New York State in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Irwin Delmore Davidson was born in New York City about eight years before the outbreak of World War I. He attended public schools. His Bachelor of Sciences he made in 1927 at Washington Square College of New York University and his Bachelor of Laws in 1928 at the New York University Law School . After receiving his bar license in 1929, he began practicing in New York City. Davidson served as Counsel for the Legislative Bill Drafting Commission in 1935 and as Special Counsel for the New York State Mortgage Commission in 1936 . He was elected to the New York State Assembly in 1936 , where he served until his resignation in 1948. During this time he took part in the New York Constituent Assembly in 1938 and served there as secretary to the Democratic leader. In 1948 he became a judge on the Court of Special Sessions in New York City - a position he held until he resigned in 1954 when he ran for the US House of Representatives.

In the 1954 congressional election for the 84th Congress , Davidson was elected to the United States House of Representatives in Washington, DC , in the 20th  constituency of New York , where he succeeded Franklin D. Roosevelt Jr. on January 4, 1955 . He resigned from his seat in Congress on December 31, 1956 .

He was elected in 1956 for a fourteen-year term as judge on the Court of General Sessions in Manhattan . Between 1963 and 1974 he served on the New York Supreme Court . He settled in New Rochelle, where he died on August 1, 1981. His body was cremated and the ashes were dumped over Long Island Sound by seaplane .
