Victory Birdseye (born December 25, 1782 in Cornwall , Connecticut , † September 16, 1853 in Pompey , New York ) was an American lawyer and politician . He represented New York State in the US House of Representatives between 1815 and 1817 and between 1841 and 1843 .

Career

Victory Birdseye was born in Litchfield County during the Revolutionary War . He attended public schools and graduated in 1804 at Williams College in Williamstown ( Massachusetts ). Then he studied law . He was admitted to the bar in 1807 and then began practicing at Pompey Hill , Onondaga County .

Politically, he was a member of the Republican Party at that time . In the congressional elections of 1814 for the 14th Congress Birdseye was elected in the 19th constituency of New York in the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , where he succeeded James Geddes on March 4, 1815 . Between 1817 and 1838 he held the post of postmaster at Pompey Hill. He was also a district attorney in Onondaga County between 1818 and 1833 and between 1818 and 1822 Master at the Chancery of Onondaga County. As a delegate, he took part in the Constituent Assembly of New York in 1821 . He was a member of the New York State Assembly in 1823 and between 1838 and 1840 . He was also a member of the New York Senate in 1827 .

In the congressional elections of 1840 for the 27th Congress , Birdseye was elected to the US House of Representatives in the 23rd constituency of New York, where he succeeded Nehemiah H. Since he refused to run again in 1842 , he left the Congress after March 3, 1843.

After his time at Congress he went back to his practice as a lawyer. He died in Pompey on September 16, 1853 and was then buried in Pompey Hill Cemetery . His great-grandson Clarence Birdseye developed the process for frozen foods ( freezing food ) and was the founder of Birds Eye Frozen Foods .
