Joseph Rowan

Joseph Rowan (born September 8, 1870 in New York City , † August 3, 1930 ibid) was an American lawyer and politician . Between 1919 and 1921 he represented New York State in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Joseph Rowan was born in New York City about five years after the Civil War ended . He attended public schools. In 1891 he graduated from Columbia College Law School . He was admitted to the bar in 1892 and then began practicing in New York City. Politically, he belonged to the Democratic Party .

In the 1918 congressional election for the 66th Congress , Rowan was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the 19th  electoral district of New York , where he succeeded Walter M. Chandler on March 4, 1919 . Since he on a run again in 1920 renounced, he left the after March 3, 1921 Congress of.

After his time in Congress he resumed his practice as a lawyer in New York City, which he continued until his death on August 3, 1930. He was buried in Woodlawn Cemetery .
