Sue W. Kelly

Sue Weisenbarger Kelly (born September 26, 1936 in Lima , Ohio ) is an American politician . Between 1995 and 2007 she represented New York State in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Sue Weisenbarger, her maiden name, attended Lima Central High School and then in 1958 Denison University in Granville . She later graduated from Sarah Lawrence College in Yonkers . She worked in biomedical research at Boston City Hospital in Massachusetts and the New England Institute for Medical Research . At times she also taught her subject. She also held other medical offices. Politically, she joined the Republican Party . At times she was on the staff of Congressman Hamilton Fish .

In the 1994 congressional elections , Kelly was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , in the 19th  constituency of New York , where she succeeded Hamilton Fish on January 3, 1995. After five re-elections, she was able to complete six legislative terms in Congress by January 3, 2007 . The terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001 , the Iraq war and the military operation in Afghanistan took place during this period . She was not re-elected in 2006.

Sue Kelly is married to Edward Kelly, with whom she has four grown children. The couple also have eight grandchildren.
