Endsville, two weeks in the future. The shadowy all powerful "Lord of Horror", possessor of Horror's Hand, sends robot replicas of Billy and Mandy (called Billybot and Mandroid) to the present. They are to stop the two from obtaining the Hand.

Future Irwin and Billy watch. Billy was going to go to the present himself but had been too distracted by the opening credits. His back up plan, another time machine, is in reality, a drawing of policemen fighting a dinosaur.

In the present, the Grim Reaper travels next door to take the soul of General Skarr, who now has a huge gaping hole in his stomach. Skarr doesn't wish to go and he manages to escape in his vehicle, which has many weapons (this may be a parody of Spyhunter). These weapons delay a pursuing Grim (and present-day Billy and Mandy, who had decided to ride along).

Skarr finally escapes by transforming his vehicle into sub form. He sees another button and presses it, curious. A laser blasts out, straight through the hole in his stomach. Skarr realizes what had happened.

Back at Billy's house, the Underworld Police take Grim away for the crime of abusing his powers. The courtroom is in a more hellish-locale. The jury is split up in pairs and each pair sits atop a giant pillar. The jury includes Dracula, Frankenstein’s Bride, Wolf man, Fred Fredburger, a Pale Ghoulish Juror, a mud ghoul, Darth Vader, The Invisible Man, and two unknown citizens. To everybody’s surprise, Boogeyman is the prosecutor and is suing Grim for abusing his powers. Boogey mentions the following people stole Grim's scythe:

1) Jack O' Lantern

2) Billy

3) Mandy

4) Irwin

5) Billy's Dad

6) Billy's Mom

7) Billy's cousin

8) Milkshakes

9) Principal Goodvibes

10) The Secret Snake Club

11) Dracula

12) General Skarr

13) Mrs. Claus

14) The Army

15) Scout Troup 701

16) The Sleestax

17) The President

18) The mailman

19) The Dingle Schmidt Sisters

20) The Boogey Man (himself)

21) A llama

In the end, Grim is found guilty and the Boogeyman agrees to take him and the kids to exile while Numbah 3 from the Kids Next Door temporarily becomes the new Reaper, on a six week trial.

Boogey’s ship makes it way to the Lava Sea where Boogey plans to feed the children to Lava Sharks. Boogey reveals his plot to steal Horror’s Hand the most powerful object in existence which makes Grim's scythe look like a worthless stick and if you go too near it you will be confronted by your worst fears but if you conquer your fear you can get it. The hand is capable of transforming its holder into the scariest and most powerful being in existence. Boogeyman sends Billy first to walk the plank. Billy reveals that he’s not scared as long as the sharks don’t eat them and starts a song called 'Scary-O.' Along with the song, Mandy and the rest of the captives make a run for it. Billy sings the song about how he’s not scared of earthquakes if the earth doesn’t shake and at the end of the song, he briefly sings about how he’s hungry. Irwin, Mandy, and Grim make a run on the getaway boat, the "deathboat" (obvious reference to a lifeboat). Billy comes along and Mandy asks what he was doing, Billy responds saying that every animated movie needs a song. Mandy sees Boogey dancing and says, "Now that’s scary." Boogeyman is first to go through the gate to Horror’s Hand and claims that Billy and Mandy must go through the Cyclops to go through the gate. The group decides to stop Boogey and claim Horror’s Hand. Mandy wants to rule the world with the hand, Billy wants to buy food, Irwin wants to marry Mandy with the hand, and Grim could reclaim his role as Grim Reaper and get his scythe back. Grim then plans to use is powers to transform the boat, only to remember he lost it. The group meets a little Cyclops with no eye who calls his friend, a giant orange Cyclops to "test" the children. This test is however revealed to be tasting the children by the Cyclops which they "pass", ending up cooking in a giant soup. Mandy, in an attempt to escape, claims that Billy urinated in the soup (which he in fact did) so the Cyclops takes them out to check. Mandy uses the opportunity, jumps out and steals the bigger Cyclops’ eye. There is a fight and the eye ends up in Billy’s stomach. It turns out that the eye is used also for Boogeyman to see the group. Boogeyman turns his head into disgust as he looks where the eye goes. Creeper offers to build robot replicas of the children and shows Boogeyman the blueprints. Suddenly, Mandroid and Billybot from the future appear and offer to help Boogeyman destroy Mandy and Billy. The group run away from the Cyclops Cove and discover a giant cake as they run near the getaway ship. Mandy is suspicious but a crazy Irwin and Billy stuff the cake into Mandy and Grim’s mouths. Suddenly, the rest of the group fall into a sleep and Mandy soon follows into the trance. Inside the cake, Mandroid comes out of the cake’s hatch and reveals that she plans on taking the brains of the group. The group is having a hive mind dream when Boogeyman comes in and kidnaps Mandy. Meanwhile, Mandy was on the ship's pole tied up while put under the Boogeyman's spell making her sleep until her spirit is broken. The Boogeyman laughs as a mad Irwin storms in and beats up all the pirates. Grim tells Billy that love makes people do stupid things. Billy reveals that he loves everything and Grim says that, that explains a whole lot. Irwin kisses Mandy awake to Grim’s and Billy’s utter disgust. Mandy is grossed out and vomits twice. Mandroid comes in and threatens with a laser gun. Mandy is disgusted by how unrealistic Mandroid is and causes Mandroid to malfunction. Mandy takes the laser gun and shoots a stalactite down stopping the pirates from attacking and the group makes a run for it on the deathboat and goes in the lead to Horror’s Hand’s Temple. Boogeyman sends the Kracken to go after the four.

The group climbs up the long stairs of the temple. About halfway up, Billy claims he can see his Grandmother's house from this vantage point. The others do not believe him and move on. Billy waves to his grandmother down below and follows.

Horror is a living statue. He had removed his left hand and placed all his fears inside. It did not exactly work, as he developed new fears. Horror spends his time with online gaming and learning to play the guitar with his teeth.

Boogeyman's forces appear and Billy is soon eaten by the Kracken. Boogey decides to hold a river race called the Cannibal Run. The winner will have to fight Horror for the right to the hand. Grim's very small boat seems unwinnable next to Boogey's legged ship. The two sides prepare. Billy hasn't resurfaced yet and Mandy thinks he might actually be dead this time. Billy appears, having made friends with the Kracken.

The race starts. Throughout it, the team become puppets, destroys a sea witch with laser guns, glue their boat back together with snot after its cut to pieces, and even get attacked by Japanese movie monsters (Godzilla, King Ghidorah, Anguirus, Rodan, Gigan and Gamera). After all that, Team Grim wins and easily defeats Horror with Mandy tearing off Billy's nose and throwing it at his head. The group tries to face their worst fears, as Billy faces a clown spider mailman (or is it a clown mail spider), Irwin faces stand up comedy jokes to bears, and Mandy faces being all sunshine and rainbows, being overweight, and married to Irwin. But Grim is the only one who conquers them as he lives his nightmare every day: living with Billy and Mandy. After Grim picks up the hand, Boogeyman steals the hand - but is defeated by his worst fear: discovering that he’s not scary and getting laughed by everybody. Grim later reveals that he turned the Hand off and Boogeyman now is living his life in his fears. The police come in and Judge Roy Spleen tries to banish Grim, but Mandy threatens the Judge so he decides to give Grim his job back and fire Numbuh 3 (although he remarks that Stitch was a great reaper in her own way). Stitch vows to get revenge on Grim if it’s the last thing he does. When Fred Fredburger says that "If I hadn't tried to eat all of the nachos, I never would have known I could", the team learns a valuable lesson: that they got what they wanted without having the Hand. Grim saved the world even without the scythe, Mandy got her own way once again, Irwin finally got to kiss his true love, and Billy is getting a new bike for Christmas. To everybody’s surprise, future Billy teleports into the temple and reveals that in the future Mandy stole the hand and become Lord Horror the supreme master of existence, just as Mandy gets hypnotized by it and seeing future Billy, nude, makes her trance go away. Mandy merely shrugs and hands the hand back to Grim. Grim is forced to put the Hand somewhere. Grim decides to put the Hand in his trunk. The group returns home with future-Billy saying his farewells. Billy asks what he’s going to have for lunch next Tuesday and future Billy says, “I could tell you but then I would have to kill you." Mandy orders Grim to make dinner. Meanwhile, Billybot and now more realistic Mandroid order their own servant, Creeper to serve his drinks.

During the credits, we see what happened to everyone:

  • Shirokin High becomes popular with some help from the Ooedo Clan
  • Kumiko became the head of the Ooedo Clan after Voldemort killed her grampa
  • Yugi, Joey, & Kaiba became the kings of games
  • Aang is still in the spirit world but is expected to appear later on
  • Algonquin C. Lumpus marries the love on his life but is sent to the hospital by the rage from his dad who now is currently in jail for the demise of a ex-bean scout who tried to off himself
  • Saago made a fortune selling manga-styled adventure stories with much disgust for Son Goku & Sha Gojyo
  • Pokemon became a crime-fighting adventure TV show
  • The cast from Digimon Savers did not appear in the movie due to some incident involving YGO0, the Porygon family, & darker aspects of other kid shows
  • Naruto partied at school in celebration for Season 3 of his own TV show
  • Carl the Evil Cockroach Wizard was sent to the Shadow Realm by Yami Yugi but was actually killed
  • Stewie Griffin set up her own unsuccessful villiany bussiness much to the normality of Roger.
  • Bloo became a R&B artist (as in R&B music)
  • Hanataro Yamada still currently lives in the Soul Society
  • Grim's scythe was stolen once again... (by Son Goku who hoped Gojyo pays back for what he owed him)

After the end credits, future Billy returns to his time to see that nothing has changed. He gets grabbed by robots, and sees that Fred Fredburger stole the hand and became Lord Horror. Fred says that his worst nightmare was running out of nachos. He then spells nachos N-A-C-H-O-Z, says his trademark "Yes!", and the movie ends.

Special features include the original "Bully Boogie" episode and interviews with the voice actors. The DVD cover can be seen at the top of this page.

Cultural references

  • The dark future seen in the opener is similar to the "Machine future" depicted in the Terminator series. The shot of a robot foot crushing a human skull is a parody of the opening shot of Terminator 2: Judgement Day. When Billy materialises from the future at the end, the sphere he emerges from is similar to that seen at the beginning of the Terminator movies. When the original Billy asks, "Why are you naked eh? Is it because clothes can't time travel because nothing inorganic can come through the time stream?" is the rationale given by Kyle Reese in the first Terminator film.
  • When Skarr is visited by Grim, he points to the hole in his stomach and says "It's just a flesh wound." This is a reference to the Black Knight from Monty Python and the Holy Grail. He also mentions how he cannot watch Shark Week while his TV is broken.
  • The chase sequence when Skarr is driving away, is a parody of Spy Hunter, especially with the oil, smoke screen, and turning into a submarine.
  • Horror's Hand, the object this movie revolves around, is likely inspired by the Marvel Comics Infinity Gauntlet or Hellboy's Right Hand of Doom (disregarding the artifact is a left hand) or the Reality Gauntlet from Danny Phantom.
  • Towards the end of the movie when Boogey walks off the cliff which he fell off of the first time, he does a yell similar to the Disney character Goofy's famous Goof Yell "Yaaaah-Hoo-Hoo-Hoo-Hooey".
  • During the scene where Mandy is into a series of nightmares, she also dreams she is on a black closed place, like in the beginning of every normal episode.
  • Features Billy's spirited rendition of his song "Scary-O" (Sergeant Pooper's Lonely Farts Club Sandwich, a reference to Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band) because "all animated movies have singing".
  • At one point during "Scary-O", Billy is dressed up like Aladdin Sane, similar to his Marilyn Manson costume in the episode Battle of the Bands. The two costumes are very similar, but in Battle of the Bands, the top half of his head is painted blue. in the movie, he has a red and blue lightning bolt over his eye.
  • Grim and Mandy's exchange: "He will become more powerful than you could possibly imagine!" - "I don't know, I can imagine quite a bit," are both lines from Star Wars (though they aren't said in the same context).
  • The Mandroid's line, "You will be assimilated," parodies the slogan of the Borg from Star Trek'.
  • At one point Harold says, Utinni, Yub Yub! which mean 'run' in two Star Wars languages (Jawaese and Ewokese.)
  • The Cannibal Run is drawn from a race from a movie of a similar title. The Cannibal Run also draws much inspiration from Jason and the Argonauts and The Odyssey. The most obvious of these references are Horror, who greatly resembles the titan Talos, and the Crushing Cliffs at the end of the race course.
  • The Japanese movie monsters Godzilla, King Ghidorah, Anguirus, Rodan, Gigan and Gamera (in that order) all make brief appearances in this movie on an underworld roller coaster ride called Monster Island, a location also from the Godzilla movies.
  • The commercials used to mention the upcoming US TV premiere of the movie are parodies of the notorious HeadOn commercial, which showed a repetitive message looping over and over again, and in later versions, had people appear as the commercial froze and describe how much they dislike the commercial, but love the product. Dracula appears in a similar fashion.
  • Earth, Wind and Fire's song (feat. The Emotions) Boogie Wonderland is featured in the main commercial "trailer" for the US premiere and is used during the ending credits of the movie.
  • This film features heavy references to Codename: Kids Next Door, due to the working relationship between Tom Warburton and Maxwell Atoms.
  • Numbah 3 of the Kids Next Door, another animated show on Cartoon Network, appears several times in the movie as Grim's replacement, and Grim references the KND when asking who would replace him, inspiring his superiors to hire Numbah 3.This acts as a prelude to the soon-to-be-released KND and Billy and Mandy crossover "The Grim Adventures of Kids Next Door"
  • When Boogey goes into the pipe while he kidnaps Mandy in the quartet's dream, he makes a sound like the pipes from the Mario series. In fact, this noise is taken from the Mario Cartoons.
  • Ro-Man from the movie Robot Monster can be seen in the jury during Grim's trial.
  • Creeper sounds similar to Murdoc Niccals of the Gorillaz, a popular Virtual Band.
  • A monster resembling Cousin Itt from The Addams Family wears a top hat and plays guitar similar to Slash during the song "Scary-O". He also has a guitar similar to the one Eddie Van Halen uses.
  • During the court scene, in the jury one can see Darth Vader and the invisible man.
  • The movie makes several references to Pirates of the Caribbean. During Cannibal Run, Grim & co. row their boat with zombie-like detached limbs, similar to the opening of Dead Man's Chest in which Captain Jack Rows his coffin with someone's else's detached leg. Also, the Kraken that eats Billy is similar to the Kraken that eats Jack Sparrow in Dead Man's Chest.
  • Boogey says if the Creeper keeps annoying him, employee of the month will go to Fred Fredburger. After he says this, we get a quick glance at Fred Fredburger drinking rocket fuel through his nose and singing his version of "Frère Jacques."
  • During the epilogue, when it shows the shot of Creeper and his time-traveling pants, the cavepeople around him appear to be distorted versions of Fred Flintstone, Barney Rubble, and Wilma Flintstone of the classic cartoon The Flintstones (Fred also appeared in an earlier episode of the show).
  • In Scary-o, the drummer heavily resembles Animal from The Muppet Show.
  • Skarr pulls out a sign that says "Eep" before being zapped by Billybot and Mandroid. This is a reference to Wile E. Coyote from Looney Toons.
  • Right after Skarr escapes Grim yells "We've got a runner!" quoted from the film Logan's Run (1976 film) depicting Logan running from his death.
  • Billybot and Mandroid are physically similar to R2-D2 & C-3PO because of Mandroid's color and Billybot's chestplate.
  • In the scene where Billy, Grim and Mandy chase General Skarr, in the background there is a picture of Major Dr. Ghastly from Maxwell Atoms' other show Evil Con Carne.
  • In Mandy's first dream after Boogey sends her into "endless nightmare," she opens a door into a desert dimension which is a reference to "Saturn" from the film Beetlejuice, a realm where ghosts end up if they leave their houses. There are even sandworms in the background.
  • On his blog, Maxwell Atoms noted this is their "Wrath of Khan movie" because they share the premise of a one episode character becoming the main villain for a full movie.
  • During the scene near the end when Boogey gets run over by the train, you can very briefly see that Hector Con Carne is sitting in the conductor's position, hanging his head out the window.
  • In the dream scene Mandy says that she dreams about The Pit and the Pendulum by Edgar Allan Poe, often.
  • Billybot speaks in a similar manner as HK-47, in that he says his form of speech [(Statement (most common), Exclamation, Query etc.)] before saying it.
  • When Billybot's head explodes from drinking root beer, he makes a sound that sounds like R2-D2.
  • The joke Irwin tells to the bears (So a bear and a Rabbit they're pooping in the woods...) is a reference to Eddie Murphy's Delirious
  • the Sunken City of The Witch Queen is probably a spoof of Istar, the Kingpriests Sunken City in the Dragon Lance series of novels.
  • When Billybot shouts "Assimilate! Assimilate!", this is a reference to the Daleks from the show Doctor Who who shout "Exterminate! Exterminate!".
  • When Grim, Billy, Mandy, and Irwin huddle, Irwin says, "Don't worry, I have a Troll Warlock." This references the game World of Warcraft.
  • The invisible duck from Duck! makes a cameo in this movie in the scene where Boogey shows up what we will do with Horror`s Hand (the moment where he unleashes many monsters).

Goofs

  • At the beginning when Grim comes to reap Skarr you see through the hole in his chest, but you should actually see the robe he is wearing. However, it is possible that he was wearing the robe when the laser that created the hole first shot through him.
  • In the episode, Bully Boogie, Boogey was sent to the Pit of Terror, but Mandy asks, "Didn't we banish you to the Nightmare Realm?". This is also referenced in the video game as Boogey's criminal record of being banished there for impersonating a TV (another Bully Boogie reference).
  • The DVD subtitles say that General Skarr said damn.
  • When Boogey's ship flies up to the summit of The Isle of Peril, nothing is on the bottom. But during the Cannibal Run, a sea monster is revealed to be fused with the ship.
  • When Boogey opens the back window asking if the gang could fly near the falls, the window is a full door, but as he tells Creeper to activate the rockets, the window has two little doors.
  • As the gang gets over the falls using Grim's cloak and gaining the lead, in the next scene the snot covering the ship disappears.
  • When Billybot eats the cannon, he seems to have put it in a storage portal of some sort. But when he drinks root beer in two scenes, he seems to have a normal robot mouth.
  • When Irwin goes to the ships deck to save Mandy, the cannons are lined diagonally. But when Boogey loads the cannons, they're all straight in a line.
  • When Billybot says "I like pie!" in the movie, the DVD subtitles say that he said "I am high!"
