Jane Carr

Ellen Jane Carr (born August 13, 1950 in Loughton , England ) is a British film, television and theater actress as well as musical actress and voice actress .

Life

Carr is the daughter of steel worker Patrick Carr and postal worker Gwendoline Rose (nee Clark). She attended the Arts Educational School and the Corona Stage School in London .

She made her stage actress debut in 1964 as Pippa in The Spider's Web at the Sheffield Playhouse (UK). She made her London stage debut in 1965 as Mary McGregor in The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie at Wyndham's Theater . For her role Mary Mooney in the comedy Once a Catholic , she received a 1977 Laurence Olivier Award nomination. Another nomination for this award followed in 1982 for her work in William Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream . She made her first appearance on Broadway , directed by John Caird and Trevor Nunn , in David Edgar's adaptation of Charles Dickens ' The Life and Adventures of Nicholas Nickleby at the Broadhurst Theater in 1986 . She played several roles in the play, for which she received a nomination for Best Supporting Actress in a Play for the Drama Logue Award and a nomination for the Drama Desk Award in 1987 . In 1992 she impersonated Poppy in Lynne Meadows production of Alan Ayckbourn's A Small Family Business at the Music Box Theater . In 1995 she received the Los Angeles Theater Critics Award for her work in She Stoops to Conquer . She also appeared as a musical actress on Broadway. Once from 2006 to 2009 as Mrs. Brill in the musical Mary Poppins staged by Matthew Bourne and Richard Eyre at the New Amsterdam Theater and again from 2013 to 2014 as the original cast for the role of Miss Shingle in the musical A Gentleman's Guide to Love and Murder , directed by Darko Tresnjak, at the Walter Kerr Theater. In October 2014, Carole Shelley took on the role of Miss Shingle.

Carr made her film debut in 1969 as Mary McGregor in Ronald Neame's romantic drama The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie . Other movies she starred in include Something for Everyone (1970), Danny Jones (1972), Deal of a Lifetime (1999), Crazy as Hell (2002), Garfield 2 (2006) and the Horror thriller 31 from 2016. On television she was seen in numerous series, for example as Gillian Page-Wood "Pudding" in the sitcom It's Awfully Bad for Your Eyes, Darling (1971), as Alma in Time of Your Life (1971-1972), as Madge Brailsford in the miniseries Love Among the Artists (1979) and as Louise Mercer in Mein Lieber John (1988-1992).

As a voice actress in English, she lent her voice to several characters in various cartoon series, such as in The Scary Adventures of Billy and Mandy (2001-2007), Mama Cosma in Cosmo & Wanda - When Elves Help (2001-2008), Grandma Winifred Fletcher in Phineas and Ferb (2008–2012) and Dan Chovie and Ann Chovie in The Fish Club (2010–2012). She also spoke the character Mrs. Dunwitty in Ron Clements ' and John Musker's 2002 adventure film Treasure Planet and Moria McTaggert in the 2005 computer game X-Men Legends II: Rise of Apocalypse .

She has been married to actor Mark Arnott since 1987 . Their son is the filmmaker Dash Arnott.
