Scary Family to Scream is a 1995 American television movie based on the television series The Munsters .

action

When an angry mob tries to storm the Munsters home in Transylvania, the family realizes it is time for a change in the air. As they flee through the back exit, they come across the postman, buried by the house dragon Spot, who has a message from Herman's niece Marilyn inviting them to America.

When you arrive in the land of opportunity, there are some problems. It turns out that Marilyn's father Norman Hyde has been missing for six months and her mother Elsa has fallen into a kind of coma from grief. There is also a new politician in town, Brent Jekyll, who is aiming for Congress and is taking an extremely xenophobic course, for which the bizarre Transylvanian family suits him. Grandpa Munster discovered a video cassette in the laboratory that shows brother-in-law Norman. He explains that he is working on a concoction that will completely change a person's appearance to help his poor daughter Marilyn, who with her blonde hair and healthy skin is so out of the family way. With the help of Grandpa's self-made “Norman Hyde Tracker” they finally find out where he is: Brother-in-law Norman tested his Elixir on himself and thus turned into the racist would-be Congressman Brent Jekyll.

In a furious finale with all sorts of mix-ups, Marilyn manages to transform her father back with the help of the antidote touched by Grandpa. Herman's sister Elsa wakes up from her coma and goes on a world tour with Norman. The Munsters stay in the house at 1313 Mockingbird Lane and dance in the front yard until late into a peaceful night of lightning and thunder.

Reviews

  • Lexicon of international film : A horror comedy based on a television series from the 1960s that is not very attractive despite the elaborate equipment and largely faithful to the original figure drawing, which at best gains attraction through the black, humorous caricature of everyday American culture.
  • Cinema : The Munster family from Transylvania is looking for happiness in America ... homage to the classic TV comedy.

Deviations between the film and the original series

  • In A Creepy Family To Scream , Marilyn's family name is Hyde, and she is the daughter of Herman's sister instead of Lilys'.
  • In the film, Grandpa Munster casts a spell on a hearse, turning it into the Munsters family car. In the series, the car was a present from Lily to Herman.
  • Grandpa Munster's laboratory is under the stairs in the film instead of under a trap door in the living room, as in the series.
  • While in the series the house at 1313 Mockingbird Lane clearly belonged to the Munsters, in the film it is owned by Herman's brother-in-law and he and his family are just house sitters.

Others

  • In one scene, the still living actors from the original series Yvonne De Carlo , Al Lewis , Butch Patrick and Pat Priest make a guest appearance as quarreling restaurant guests. Fred Gwynne (Herman Munster), the lead actor in the series, had died in 1993.
  • The Munsters' house is a backdrop that has already been used several times for the Goosebumps series based on the youth book series by RL Stine . The original house from the original series still stands on Colonial Street in Universal Studios .
  • Material from Universals Frankenstein from 1931 was used for the opening sequence of the film .
  • The part of the mask worn by leading actor Edward Herrmann as Herman Munster comes from the same mold as the one that Fred Gwynne wore in the first episodes of The Munsters . Since this model was too big for Gwynne, it was replaced with a different face piece. This part of the mask was originally designed in the 1940s for Glenn Strange , who played Frankenstein's monster in three universal classics .
  • The German first publication on video took place under the original title: Here Come the Munsters . In TV broadcasts, however, the German title is usually used.
  • In the German dubbing of the film, Grandpa Munster was voiced by Hans Teuscher , who had previously voiced Al Lewis in the same role in the series .
