Canada has adopted the NTSC and ATSC television transmission standards without any alterations. However, some unique local variations exist for DTH television because of transponder design variation in the Anik series of satellites.

National broadcast television networks

English

  • CBC Television, a national public network owned by the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC). It broadcasts in English, French and in Aboriginal languages in the territories and northern regions of Québec and Labrador.
    • CBC North, a publicly owned television system run by the CBC operating in the territories, northern Quebec and Labrador, airing the complete CBC Television schedule with a few exemptions to local programming.
  • CTV, a national private network (except for Newfoundland & Labrador and the territories) owned by CTVglobemedia broadcasting in English.
    • CTV Atlantic, a privately owned network of stations airing the complete CTV network schedule within Nova Scotia, New Brunswick and Prince Edward Island owned by CTVglobemedia.
    • CTV Northern Ontario, a privately owned network of stations airing the complete CTV network schedule within in Northern Ontario owned by CTVglobemedia.
  • Global, a national private network (except for Newfoundland & Labrador and the territories) owned by Canwest broadcasting in English.

French

Aboriginal

  • APTN, a broadcast television network with television stations in the three territories and cable network carried nationwide on cable and satellite. Programming focuses on Aboriginals. It operates in English, French and various Aboriginal languages.

Regional broadcast television systems

English

  • A, a privately owned television system with stations in Ontario, British Columbia, and Atlantic Canada. It is owned by CTVglobemedia.
  • Citytv, a privately owned television system with stations in Ontario, Manitoba, Alberta and British Columbia It is owned by Rogers Communications.
  • E!, a privately owned television system with stations located in Quebec, Ontario, Alberta and British Columbia. It is owned by Canwest.
  • Great West Television, a privately owned group of stations affiliated with CBC Television in British Columbia.

French

  • TQS, a privately owned television system based in Quebec broadcasting in French. TQS is owned by Remstar Corporation.

Multicultural

  • Omni Television, a group of five privately owned multicultural television stations in Ontario, Alberta and British Columbia owned by Rogers Media.

  • CJNT, an affiliate of E!, it also uses the on-air brand CJNT Montréal during local programming - a privately owned multicultural television station in Montreal owned by Canwest and operates in several languages.

  • CJIL, using the on-air brand The Miracle Channel - a privately owned Christian television station in Lethbridge, Alberta owned by The Miracle Channel Association.

Provincial educational television stations

  • Access, a privately owned educational station in Alberta owned by CTVglobemedia. Available over-the-air and on cable throughout the province. (CJAL Edmonton and CIAN Calgary)
  • Knowledge Network, a publicly owned educational station in British Columbia owned by the government of British Columbia. Limited availability over-the-air, but is available on cable throughout the province.
  • SCN, a publicly owned educational station in Saskatchewan owned by the government of Saskatchewan. Not available over-the-air, only available through cable throughout the province.
  • TVO, a publicly owned educational station in Ontario owned by the government of Ontario. Available over-the-air and on cable throughout the province. (CICA Toronto)

  • Canal Savoir, an educational station in Quebec owned by a private consortium known as CANAL, consisting primarily of Quebec-based post-secondary institutions. Broadcasts educational programming in Montreal over-the-air, but is available on cable throughout the rest of the province. (CFTU Montreal)
  • Télé-Québec, a publicly owned educational station in Quebec owned by the government of Québec. Available over-the-air and on cable throughout the province. (CIVM Montreal)
  • TFO, a publicly owned educational station in Ontario owned by the government of Ontario. Available over-the-air and on cable throughout the province. (CHLF Toronto/Hawkesbury)
