The World Cup of Pool is the annual single-elimination tournament for pool players. It is held annually at Newport, Wales. The games were first held in 2006.

Format

On the inaugural tournament, there are 32 participating teams, representing 31 nations (England has 2 teams) composed of two players each.

The participating nations for the 2006 edition did not have to go through a qualifying tournament inorder to join, for they were selected by the organizers. Europe is represented by 17 teams, Asia with 11 (10, if Qatar is excluded), 2 from the Americas and 1 from Africa (South Africa). Sixteen teams are seeded.

The individual matches are scotch doubles with alternate breaks on a nine-ball format.

Matchroom Sport broadcasted all of the games. PartyPoker.com sponsored the event.

2006

The inaugural tournament was held from August 22 to August 27, 2006.

Final

The Philippine team of Efren Reyes and Francisco Bustamante defeated the American tandem of Earl Strickland and Rodney Morris 13—5 to lift the inuagural trophy.

2007

According to the WPA official site, The 2007 tournament is due to start some time in May, however, it is to be confirmed and location is yet to be announced.
