Drowning Pool is a hard rock band hailing from Dallas.
History
Drowning Pool rose to prominence while playing along with Ozzy Osbourne during Ozzfest. Their 2001 debut album, Sinner, was certified platinum within six months and the video for its first single "Bodies" was frequently aired on various music video channels. After the September 11th attacks "Bodies" was infrequently heard on many radio stations as there were concerns regarding its appropriateness in light of the 9/11 victims who had jumped from the towers. On August 14, 2002 the lead singer, Dave Williams, was found dead inside his tour bus. Toxicology reports after his death indicated that he suffered from a form of heart disease.
When asked if the band has any unreleased new material, Benton commented that "There are none. All the unreleased songs are out in either some soundtracks or compilations. We didn't get a chance to record any new songs before Dave's death".
After Williams' death, the band decided to carry on and began searching for a new singer. In 2003, the band found Williams's replacement in Jason 'Gong' Jones, and released the album Desensitized in 2004.
Jones's departure from Drowning Pool was publicly announced on June 14, 2005, due to irreconcilable differences. Reasons for his departure was not known, but have been speculated from women trouble to money to ego[citation needed]. Jones would later join the Alternative Metal band A.M. Conspiracy. Almost immediately, rumours started swirling concerning the new singer's identity, ranging from Brandan Narrell of Advent to Pat Lachman of Damageplan to Phil Anselmo of Pantera, but the biggest buzz of the rumors was to former SOiL singer Ryan McCombs.[citation needed] Drowning Pool announced that the singer would be formally announced August 25 at the Ozzfest date in Dallas, Texas, where Drowning Pool would do a one off performance on the main stage. On July 20, website SMNNews received word from close sources that McCombs was indeed the new singer, and that fact was confirmed by McCombs and Drowning Pool alike the next week. According to their manager, McCombs was the band's top, if not only, choice to be the lead singer.
In spring of 2006, Drowning Pool announced that they had parted ways with Wind-up Records. Wind-up's website confirmed this in June 2006.
In October 2006, a new song called "No More" was announced to be released on the Saw III soundtrack, their first track (besides the second version of "Rise Up") with Ryan McCombs on vocals. According to their MySpace page, as of October 23, 2006 they are currently in the studio recording their third album.
On February 26, 2007, it was announced that the band has signed a new deal with Eleven Seven Music, after receiving offers from Century Media and Sanctuary Records.[1] It was also confirmed that Drowning Pool will have a new management company, Tenth Street Entertainment, following the group's departure with Paul Bassman of Bass Management.
It has been announced that the band's newest album is titled Full Circle and will be released on July 24th, 2007 nationwide. [citation needed] Two songs (not yet titled) on the album are being produced by Funny Farm Records, owned by Mötley Crüe bassist Nikki Sixx and former Beautiful Creatures guitarist DJ Ashba. The remaining tracks have been recorded with producer Ben Schigel at the Dallas-based January Studios.

- Other Drowning Pool songs have also been used by World Wrestling Entertainment. "Sinner" was used for Vengeance 2001, "Tear Away" for WrestleMania X8, and "Step Up" for WrestleMania XX. Currently, "Rise Up" is used as the SmackDown! brand's official theme. "Rise Up" is found on the album WWE ThemeAddict: The Music, Vol. 6 and was originally recorded with Jason Jones. However, new version of the song recorded with Ryan McCombs was featured as a bonus downloadable track for the WWE Wreckless Intent album.
- Drowning Pool's song "Bodies" has been used multiple times by World Wrestling Entertainment. "Bodies" was the official theme song for SummerSlam 2001, One Night Stand 2005 and 2006, and December to Dismember 2006. Currently, it is used as the ECW brand's official theme.
- Their song "Follow" would be featured in the soundtrack of the Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3 soundtrack album.
- The song "Sinner" would also be the main theme song for Jet Li's movie The One.
- Their single "Step Up" was featured in the end credits for 2004 film The Punisher. The video for the song can be found in the special features section of the DVD.
- On their late 2006 to early 2007 tour they have performed Cowboys from Hell by Pantera in memory of Dimebag Darrell, and have also played Billy Idol's "Rebel Yell" live on their 2007 tour.
