Don't you think that having duplicated sections for create pages and add details is a little overkill? I propose merge them both (and having some mark for non-existing pages). Lgrave

Yeh feel free to do whatever - the page was done quickly just to set it up. I'm on exams at the moment so I won't be changing anything or "advertising" for another week or so, so do whatever you want. AlbinoMonkey (Talk) 09:09, 22 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Race Reports

OK, I know it's early, and the first race is still 24 days away, but I wanted to get the ball rolling. What format/syntax should we use for the race reports? I like the idea of the format the F1 WP has, that is, YEAR LOCATION Grand Prix for the title, and other standards (in progress?) for the rest. example My question is: How? I don't think that there is an answer yet, especially since the race has not yet been run, but I wanted to start discussion, get ideas out there. What do we like about the example above that should be kept? What do we dislike, and as such, should change? What will be different F1 -> A1, and as such, must change? -slowpokeiv 23:38, 31 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Having a look at the A1GP website, it seems the full official name of their races will be (eg) 2005-06 A1 Grand Prix of Nations, Great Britain. It's definitely a mouthful, but I think using simply the country name rather than the nationality (as F1 does with 2005 British Grand Prix for example) is the better option, even just to avoid conflicts such as Argentine vs Argentinian. Maybe just 2005-06 A1 Grand Prix of Great Britain (with redirects from 2005-06 British A1 Grand Prix, etc). Secondly, I think qualifying should be included (and stay there - I believe it is removed on Saturdays) on the page, as IIRC teams are allowed to use one driver for qualifying and another for the race. I can't think of any other major differences between F1 and A1GP that would affect the race report. Somewhere in Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Formula One (maybe in the archives), someone proposed a small infobox at the top of the race reports with the major information as in 2002 United States Grand Prix. I think this is a good idea and would work well for A1GP, provided the article/report is long enough to warrant it. I'm sure I'll think of other things later. AlbinoMonkey (Talk) 07:38, 1 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]
OK, I've been talking... Seriously, for now, I think that 2005-06 A1 Grand Prix of Nations, Great Britain with redirects from both seems to be the best option. I've thrown up a quick draft of table formats in my A1GP Sandbox, lemme know what you think. (and/or just add it there. If you are reading this now, you have my explicit permission to edit this sandbox.) In progress, will add to it as I have time. -slowpokeiv 14:03, 23 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]
I think the two best times should be highlighted, just for clarity of where the "Aggregate" time comes from. I've added a few little proposals to your sandbox, I prefer the first one. Let us know what you think. Also, although A1GP is intentionally promoting itself as completely team-based, I think it's important to include the driver names for qualifying and the race, as the teams are allowed to use one driver for quali and one for the race (although there is some restriction about times in practice I can't exactly remember). AlbinoMonkey (Talk) 02:33, 24 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Rule: Any driver from the team may qualify the car (one driver per session). Once qualified, any driver that posted a time within 102% of the qualification time may race either race. -slowpokeiv 23:07, 25 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]
I've made a prototype for a possible template for a race summary, similar to that proposed for F1 articles. It may not be necessary now, but if we are able to create race summaries of some length, I think it is useful to put at the top as a quick guide. The height may be an issue, but I think fastest lap needs to be in there as it is worth championship points. See it here, ignore the strangely stern warning at the top of the page, feel completely free to edit. AlbinoMonkey (Talk) 04:30, 24 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]
I like what you've been doing. :) My .02: Re: Qualis, I agree, option number one. I like the clarity of the blue BG, is very nice, and I see no need to have agg times in bold. I also agree that drivers are important, but failed to include them in the chart. (It is kind of frustrating that A1GP omits that information occasionally.) Re: race summary, I have 2 points: #1, only one FL counts for points, so I think that should be reflected. #2, did you get a chance to watch the race, and more importantly, the podium? (living in the USA, and not having access to DirectTV, I am in the dark as far as TV is concerned. :( ) If A1GP puts importance on more than just the winner, I think that we should too, but if they do not, and do not use the word "podium" to refer to a second or third place finish, I think we should also reflect that. -slowpokeiv 23:18, 25 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, I saw the race, and they do have a podium with the top 3 placegetters, who each receive a medal (gold, silver, bronze i think) and a trophy. Yeh I misinterpreted the rules and thought the fastest lap in each race counts for points, so included it twice. Having it once how you changed it is perfect. Wiki categories

Should we add wiki categories, such as A1GP Team, A1GP Driver, A1GP people. Similar to the Category:Formula One people category and infobox? Felsir 12:40, 26 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I added a short biography for Maktoum Hasher Maktoum Al Maktoum from bits and pieces I found using Google. Seemed like a nice start for the Category:A1 Grand Prix people. I think this should be the category for non-driver people related to the A1GP. Felsir 18:28, 26 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]
There is a Category:A1 teams, putting the drivers in their own category is also a good idea. AlbinoMonkey (Talk) 04:06, 27 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Ah, great. I cleaned the category up a bit- I replaced the tag
with

This way the category is listed alphabetically by country instead all teams under "A" (see result: Category:A1 teams). I suggest the same method for people and drivers- list them by surname first. It seems to be the convention in many other people categories. Felsir 06:21, 27 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]
I added the Category:A1 Grand Prix drivers. A lot of drivers have no page or their involvement in A1GP isn't recorded. So there is plenty of work here ;-) Felsir 07:06, 27 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Should it be renamed Category:A1 Grand Prix teams for consistency? Bornintheguz 18:20, 2 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not sure what you mean? If you add the correct category tags in the category-pages it should work. Felsir 14:04, 4 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

A Category:A1 Grand Prix racing team can be created, not for A1GP countries teams, but motorsport teams - Rollof1 14:52, 30 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

ISO 3166-1 or other?

Long story short: for the three letter codes listed on A1 Grand Prix teams, and any other uses in the A1GP pages, what 3 letter codes should be used? My two cents: ISO 3166-1, for two reasons. 1)It is international, that is, it respects the country's language. (eg: DEU instead of GER) 2) It is an independant standard, that is, someone with no connection to A1GP would be able to understand it just as well as anyone else. There is a case to be made for the abbreviations listed on a1gp.com, which is why I bring it up here, but again, my vote would be for ISO 3166-1. -slowpokeiv 23:29, 3 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I prefer the abbreviations on the A1GP cars (probably the same as on the website), as they are directly related to the sport. I don't mind either way, but the ISO codes are a bit confusing sometimes. AlbinoMonkey (Talk) 07:22, 4 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

List of drivers per country

I noticed a lot of inconsistencies in the team template, team pages concerning the drivers. For example: A1 Team Japan has Fukuda and Motoyama in the template, the team page says Fukuda and Noda. In Sydney the actual driver was Shimoda. I was unable to find a comprehensive list of A1 GP drivers on the web. Some teams have an A1 GP homepage [1], [2] that lists their drivers, many however have no such page. Can someone help cleaning up the template and pages to list the correct drivers? Felsir 07:48, 7 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

The teams seem to find new drivers each week; at Eastern Creek we saw five new drivers. A1 Team Russia even skipped Lausitz to search for a driver IIRC. We should probably take driver info from the a1gp.com website, or something trustworthy. NSLE (讨论) \<extra> 09:37, 7 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]
In a couple of weeks when I'm off uni I'm going to try and get all the A1GP info down. At the start of the year I didn't expect teams to use so many different drivers, but I can imagine by the end, some may have used up to 6-8 drivers or something, which would be ridiculous to list on the template. Maybe we should restrict the template to the 2 drivers who have done the most practice/quali/races, and put the full lists on the team pages and A1 GP season page. AlbinoMonkey (Talk) 11:13, 7 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]
List of all teams drivers can be added in all A1GP Teams articles like A1 Team France. We can also separate "Race drivers", "Test drivers" and "Rookie session drivers" in "teams" table in all seasons articles - Rollof1 21:14, 20 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

It's interesting but I'm not sure it adds anything to the information already available. Also, I don't believe actual medals are issued anyway so it perhaps is a touch irrelevant as well.--Jsydave 11:07, 15 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I think a statistic page by nation is more interesting. This can include number of medal (1st,2nd and 3rd postion) but also pole position, fast lap by nation, number of championship engaged, of GP raced, of drivers by nation... like List of A1 Grand Prix teams Rollof1 20:44, 14 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Need for a WikiProject: Motorsport?

Do we need a WikiProject Motorsport for collaboration on topics that affect all motorsport articles? I came across Wikipedia:WikiProject_Rugby - the purpose of which is to "maintain its children Wikiprojects: Rugby league and Rugby union as well as recognising, organising and improving the common areas between the codes." Now we have a lot more Motorsport WikiProjects covered than two and I sometimes think stuff such as the UK country discussion on the F1 Wikiproject applies across several others. I'm posting this on the F1, WRC, NASCAR, American Open Wheel Racing, A1GP and IROC to get people's opinions. Your comments are welcome! Alexj2002 21:09, 14 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I'm in. I'm already a member of several relevant WikiProjects (F1, A1GP, British Motorsport and MotoGP) and I agree that there is a lot of overlap between all of these and an umbrella project would be helpful in co-ordinating style and approach, especially where drivers are in more than one series in their careers. Justin Wilson is a good current example - he gets infoboxes for both Champ Car and F1 and they don't really sit well on top of each other.--Jsydave 11:05, 15 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia Day Awards

Hello, all. It was initially my hope to try to have this done as part of Esperanza's proposal for an appreciation week to end on Wikipedia Day, January 15. However, several people have once again proposed the entirety of Esperanza for deletion, so that might not work. It was the intention of the Appreciation Week proposal to set aside a given time when the various individuals who have made significant, valuable contributions to the encyclopedia would be recognized and honored. I believe that, with some effort, this could still be done. My proposal is to, with luck, try to organize the various WikiProjects and other entities of wikipedia to take part in a larger celebrartion of its contributors to take place in January, probably beginning January 15, 2007. I have created yet another new subpage for myself (a weakness of mine, I'm afraid) at User talk:Badbilltucker/Appreciation Week where I would greatly appreciate any indications from the members of this project as to whether and how they might be willing and/or able to assist in recognizing the contributions of our editors. Thank you for your attention. Badbilltucker 19:27, 29 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Changes in Templates

Hi, I'm currently making some changes over on the WikiProject Motorsport Assessment Page. Look in the statistics section. Only 240 articles have the template WikiProject Motorsport on it. I'm thererfore going to propose something (I think this has been discussed a while back). Can every single Motorsport article have the template on it's talk page. My reasoning for this is that some drivers have only the Formula One template on the article. However, surely (by the way, this goes for virtually all articles), they haven't got to Formula One someway. They haven't just been thrown into F1, I don't think any drivers done that. They've gone through other forms of Motorsport. Therefore, surely the Wikipedia Motorsport template is needed for every single Motorsport article?. I'm going to do a vote on this (on this page, plus the Motorsport project and all the child projects) so we can get a decision on this. By the way, don't bother voting on different projects, as only one of your votes will count! Davnel03 16:53, 5 March 2007 (UTC) [reply]

Standard width for driver infoboxes

There are numerous driver articles which contain multiple infoboxes, for the different series the driver has competed in. One issue is that the various driver infoboxes are different widths, which means that the infoboxes don't always "stack" neatly - contrast Olivier Gendebien (all infoboxes the same width) with Julian Bailey (different width infoboxes). The current infobox widths are:

  • 25 em: F1 driver, A1GP driver, V8 Supercar driver, WRC driver
  • 24 em: Former F1 driver, Former Champ Car driver, Former F3 driver
  • 22 em: BTCC driver, BTCC alumnus, DTM driver, Junior series driver, Pickup Truck driver, Infobox racing driver
  • 270px (which is very close to 24em): all the NASCAR driver infobox templates

I propose that we standardise the width of all driver infoboxes at 24em, to improve the visual appearance of articles containing multiple infoboxes. Please leave comments here. DH85868993 14:27, 23 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

inactive?

Oh, come on! Why inactive if we've made a full coverage of the two seasons (in real time - even WikiNews articles from time to time) and are fully prepared for the third?! Sure in mid-season it's a bit quiet out here, but that's not the reason to call this WikiProject "inactive"... --Yuriy Lapitskiy 13:32, 7 August 2007 (UTC)

Standings

I suggest homogeneize Standings table in season repports and Team repports. I've made tables for 2005-06 and 2006-07 seasons. Parts of these can be used for to complete A1GP Teams pages like this : A1 Team France. This table format is inspired by Formula 1 standings tables. Old standing table in season repports are maybe not usefull (contains errors). - Rollof1 13:58, 19 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

A1 Grand Prix race articles

I pasted this comment from the talk at WP:MOTOR: Royalbroil 13:38, 3 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Check Here for part of discussion.

I am planning to AFD all of the A1 Grand Prix race articles. Unless A1 GP becomes really big, and possibly nearly as big as Formula One, I can't see much point of the race report articles with the series only been in existance for two years. Instead, possibly have something like this for the related season articles. No matter what though, I think the A1 GP race reports fail notability. Davnel03 12:52, 3 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
A1GP has more global interest/significance than IndyCar. Also note that the series summary you linked to uses main to link to the article about each race. --Scott Davis Talk 15:08, 7 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Category:A1 Grand Prix drivers

The Category:A1 Grand Prix drivers include race drivers but also some practice or rookie sessions drivers. This category should include only race drivers (drivers than have start at least one race). - Rollof1 (talk) 11:43, 20 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Maybe sub categories should be created due to lot of drivers in a1gp. A1 drivers can be include in categories like Category:A1 Team New Zealand drivers according to teams. Additionaly, a Category:A1 Grand Prix rookies drivers can also be created including only rookies drivers than never have start a race - Rollof1 (talk) 14:06, 21 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I ask some opinions on this article, template... and especially a revision of my poor english. The goal of this is to suggest a race report model for A1 grand prix, at least for 2007-08 season, who can be assessed then. Thanks for your help. - Rollof1 17:38, 30 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Project page included in Category:A1 Grand Prix venues

Transcluding Template:A1 Grand Prix circuits into the Project page results in the project page being included in Category:A1 Grand Prix venues. Which (IMHO) is a bit yukky. Personally I'd recommend not transcluding the template (or any of the others) into the project page, but instead just referring to them by name e.g. A1 Grand Prix circuits. An alternative approach would be to remove the category from the template, and manually apply the category to the individual circuit articles. I'll leave it to the members of the project to decide the best way forward. -- DH85868993 (talk) 01:40, 7 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Template to simplify A1 Team name

I suggest create Template to replace "Switzerland Switzerland" :

SUI Switzerland

by :

or

Like flagicon Teamplate, name must use ISO 3166-1 alpha-3 codes. After creating template for each A1 team, its necessary to replace all existing sentence by these with a bot probably. The point is to simplify team name writting and save octects in all WP:A1GP pages. - Rollof1 (talk) 13:32, 16 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Race reports for 2008-09

I know it's still a month away, but I went ahead and started up the race report page for the Italy race. We're not changing anything from the previous race report format are we? No rules have significantly changed to deem it necessary... TheChrisD RantsEdits 16:54, 20 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The rules are globally the same, indeed. The previous year reports page was structured by me and nobody request some modifications. But if you think it need changes... The think that wasn't in the previous reports was the rookies drivers picked up (it was only notified the newscomers in the Note section). Anyway, thanks for your contributions in this project. - Rollof1 (talk) 17:06, 20 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Standardising of the A1 Team pages

I've been going through some of the A1 Team pages whilst updating them with driver and other information for the upcoming season - and I've noticed that they all seem to have a different layout, ordering, details etc.

I suggest that all A1 Team pages be standardised, along some sort of "template" like:

  • Opening line and infobox
  • Management
  • History
    • Very brief synopsis of season's overall performance
  • Drivers
  • Complete results
  • Refs
  • External Links

Does anyone else agree, or have anything to ask about this? If there's no objection, I will likely change all the team pages to follow this format, at some point this weekend. TheChrisD RantsEdits 23:00, 24 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Of course I agree. - Rollof1 (talk) 08:30, 25 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I've seen your work in team pages. Maybe a summary for each season is not necessary in the history section. This section will be very long after some seasons. A historical paragraph should be better (transform summaries in a unique paragraph). - Rollof1 (talk) 11:40, 1 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I was thinking about that myself, it does look like that soon each individual season won't need a report. Depending on how much information for this season is placed into the team's histories, then we can think about condensing the first three seasons into one single section. Any and all feedback is welcome, but I plan on adding the 2008-09 row to all teams pages (excluding Korea and Monaco, where it is already in place), along with updating the drivers tables with any new drivers for this season, so let me know ASAP! I'm not sure that's better. That increase the height of tables. In formula one team, they only have the initial of each venue (eg WilliamsF1 Grand Prix results). Maybe keeping flags and initials without "spr" and "fea" but i'm not convinced so. - Rollof1 (talk) 15:10, 2 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I've added the 2007-08 year format on top of it for a direct comparison, as well as how it would look in conjunction with the previous format (I've used A1 Team New Zealand as an example since they only had one driver in 07-08) TheChrisD RantsEdits 15:28, 2 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
The first look more simple and clear in my mind. - Rollof1 (talk) 16:37, 2 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

PS. I also have the bare-bones tables for race report pages, currently up on my sandbox, and commented out on the Zandvoort race report page. TheChrisD RantsEdits 11:48, 2 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I've check your sandbox and in the "Sprint and Feature Races" results tables its unecessary have "laps" AND "time". Time is enough (like in 07-08 season). I agree the "driver" table even if it make longer the reports articles. - Rollof1 (talk) 15:18, 2 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Tables from the previous years had both "laps" and "time". There is somewhat of a difference. Laps indicates the number of complete laps a team finished, whereas I planned on using time for either the time difference to the leader (whether that be in seconds or laps), or the reason for retirement, which is something that wasn't used before in the A1GP tables, but is used in F1 race reports (2008 Signapore Grand Prix for example). Plus I feel the drivers table is necessary, as sometimes it isn't exactly clear who was driving for what team, until you reach the results tables.
