The total number of episodes per season is 23. Each season comes with an extra special recap episode. The second season had a two-hour season finale, being longer than season 1 by one hour. Season two began airing September 25, 2005. After discovering their friend's dark secret, the housewives move on with their lives. Bree, who's husband just passed away, is not coping well with being a widow and is unkowingly dating a man who poisoned her husband to be with her. Susan, still searching for love, after breaking up with Mike, ends up in bed with her ex-husband who is now dating her nemesis, Edie. Lynette goes back to her career in advertising, as her husband Tom becomes a stay-at-home dad. And now pregnant Gabrielle, decides to be faithful to her husband who is now in jail, and as she starts accepting her upcoming motherhood, she has a miscarriage. And as the four housewives deal with their private lives, they can't help but notice there's something strange about the new neighbors who just moved in, and there is...they're keeping a prisoner in their basement!

The show also follows the mystery of why Mary Alice took her own life and precisely who Mike Delfino really is. In many episodes, the "surviving" housewives (Mary Alice was one of the group before her suicide) meet and discuss over either coffee or poker the events of the current storyline.

Susan is held hostage by Zach, who's got a gun and wants to kill Mike.

Back in the present, while at the psychiatric hospital Bree gets some frightening news. Susan moves into a trailer. Lynette finds out that Tom has another child.
