(11268) Spassky is an asteroid of the main inner belt , which was discovered by the Ukrainian astronomer Lyudmyla Shuravlowa on October 22, 1985 at the Crimean Observatory in Nauchnyj ( IAU code 095). The asteroid had already been sighted on October 22, 1981 under the provisional designation 1981 UB 11 in Nautschnyj.

The period of rotation of the asteroid was examined between November 1st and 26th, 2015 by Giovanni Battista Casalnuovo at the Eurac Research observatory in Bolzano . (11268) Spassky revolves around himself in about 5.6 hours. This result confirmed simultaneous observations of the asteroid by the iTelescope Observatory in Nerpio, Spain and the Etscorn Campus Observatory in Socorro , New Mexico .

The asteroid was named on September 28, 2004 after the scientist and submarine engineer Igor Dmitrijewitsch Spassky , who is an honorary citizen of Saint Petersburg according to the dedication . Spassky is the English transcription of his name Спасский . On October 19, 2004, Spassky received a designation certificate at a ceremony in the Rubin marine design office in Saint Petersburg.
