(12702) Panamarenko is an asteroid of the central main belt , which was discovered on September 22, 1990 by the Belgian astronomer Eric Walter Elst at the La Silla Observatory of the European Southern Observatory in Chile ( IAU code 809). There had been several sightings of the asteroid before: on September 14, 17 and 20, 1941 under the provisional designation 1941 RA at the Konkoly Observatory in Budapest , on November 1, 1978 (1978 VM 15 ) at the Crimean Observatory in Nautschnyj , on October 1, 1986 (1986 TT 4 ) at the French Observatoire de Calern and on October 3, 1986 (1986 TF 10 ) again at the Crimean Observatory in Nautschnyj.

According to the SMASS classification ( Small Main-Belt Asteroid Spectroscopic Survey ), a spectroscopic study by Gianluca Masi , Sergio Foglia and Richard P. Binzel at (12702) Panamarenko assumed a bright surface, so it could, roughly speaking, be around trade an S asteroid .

The asteroid was named on January 5, 2015 after the Belgian artist Henri Van Herwegen (1940-2019), who is known under the stage name Panamarenko . Panamarenko installs aircraft as poetic constructions.
