(271009) Reitterferenc is an asteroid of the main inner belt that was discovered on December 25, 2002 by the Hungarian amateur astronomer Krisztián Sárneczky at the Piszkéstető Observatory ( IAU code 561) in the northern Hungarian Mátra Mountains on behalf of the Budapest Konkoly Observatory . The asteroid had previously been sighted on December 6, 2002 with the provisional designation 2002 XX 116 as part of the Digital Sky Survey at the Apache Point Observatory in New Mexico .
The asteroid is a member of the Massalia family, a group of asteroids with low orbital inclination named after their largest member (20) Massalia . The timeless (non- osculating ) orbital elements of (271009) Reitterferenc are almost identical to those of the smaller, if one assumes the absolute brightness of 17.8 compared to 17.5, asteroids (385747) 2005 XC 30 .
(271009) Reitterferenc was named on October 8, 2014 after the Hungarian architect and engineer Ferenc Reitter (1813–1874).
