(293809) Zugspitze is an asteroid of the central main belt that was discovered on September 15, 2007 by the German amateur astronomers Stefan Karge and Rainer Kling at the 60 cm Cassegrain telescope of the Hans-Ludwig-Neumann-Observatory on the Kleine Feldberg ( IAU code B01) was discovered. There had already been sightings of the asteroid on March 9th and 13th, 2005 under the provisional designation 2005 ES 180 at the outstation of the Steward Observatory located on Kitt Peak .

(293809) Zugspitze was named on May 14, 2014 after the Zugspitze , the highest mountain in Germany.
