(3550) Link is an asteroid of the main belt that was discovered on December 20, 1981 by the Czech astronomer Antonín Mrkos at the Kleť Observatory ( IAU code 046) in the town of Český Krumlov in southern Bohemia .
The asteroid was named after the Czech astronomer and educator František Link (1906-1984), who was the first president of the Astronomical Institute of the Czechoslovak Academy of Sciences and who contributed significantly to the explanation of the gravitational lensing effect .
