(39464) Pöppelmann is an asteroid of the main belt that was discovered on October 27, 1973 by the German astronomer Freimut Börngen at the Thuringian state observatory in Tautenburg ( IAU code 033).

The asteroid is a member of the Massalia family, a group of asteroids with low orbital inclination named after their largest member (20) Massalia .

(39464) Pöppelmann was on 20 November 2002 after the German builder of the Baroque and Rococo Matthew Daniel Pöppelmann named (1662-1736), whose most famous work of the Dresden Zwinger is.
