(6859) Datemasamune is an asteroid of the main belt , the February 13, 1991 by Japanese astronomers Masahiro Koishikawa at the Ayashi Station of the Sendai Astronomical Observatory in Sendai was discovered.
It was named on February 2, 1999 after the Japanese feudal lord Date Masamune (1567-1636), a follower of Tokugawa Ieyasu , who had Sendai Castle built in 1601 .
