Aegidius Hunnius the Younger

Aegidius Hunnius the Younger (born March 19, 1594 in Wittenberg , † April 29, 1642 in Altenburg ) was a German Lutheran theologian.

Life

Born as the son of Aegidius Hunnius the Elder , he first attended school in his hometown. After his father died, his brother Nikolaus Hunnius took care of him.There he enrolled at the University of Wittenberg , where, after completing his studies at the Faculty of Philosophy, he obtained a master's degree in 1614 and soon became an adjunct at the Faculty of Philosophy recorded.

On the recommendation of Elector Johann Georg von Sachsen , he moved to the University of Gießen in 1618 , where he further developed his theological studies with Balthasar Mentzer the Elder and Justus Feuerborn, among others . He also attended the University of Strasbourg and returned to Wittenberg, where he obtained a licentiate in theology in 1622 .

Thereupon he became superintendent in Sangerhausen in the same year , and in 1623 received his doctorate in theology in Wittenberg with the disputation de gravissimis pontificiorum criminalibus, quae circa locum de filio Die committunt . In the following year he became general superintendent and consistorial assessor in Altenburg , where he stayed until the end of his life and experienced the unpleasantness of the Thirty Years' War .
