Étienne Delessert (illustrator)
Étienne Delessert (born January 4, 1941 in Lausanne ) is a Swiss author, painter, illustrator , graphic artist and draftsman who has been working as a children's book author and children's book illustrator in Europe and the USA since the 1960s .
Life
From 1959 to 1974 Delessert worked as a commercial artist in Switzerland, Paris and New York City , USA. In 1967 his first book Sans fin la fête was published (English: The Endless Party , German: The long journey of the animals ). Other successful children's books emerged from a collaboration with Eugène Ionesco and Jean Piaget . To date, Delessert has illustrated over 80 books, some of which have been translated into 14 languages.
In the 1970s Delessert produced a children's series Yok-Yok for Swiss television . This series was published in 1979 by the Gallimard publishing house in Paris as a comic strip . In 1993 the series was reissued by the US publisher Creative Education from Mankato , Minnesota . In 2011 the Gallimard jeunesse publishing house followed with a new edition in French.
Delessert is both a Swiss and a US citizen and lives with his family in both Lakeville, Connecticut, and Lausanne.

- 1979: Badge of the Biennal of Illustrations Bratislava , Bratislava , then Czechoslovakia .
- 1981: Premio Grafico at the World Children's Book Fair in Bologna , Italy.
- 1989: another Premio Grafico .
- a total of thirteen gold and twelve silver medals from the American Society of Illustrators .
- 1996: Hamilton King Award .
- 2010: in the final selection for the Hans Christian Andersen Prize .
