The Công ty ô tô Thế giới , in English World Auto Co., Ltd. ( Weltauto ), is the official general importer for automobiles of the German brand Volkswagen in Vietnam . The company, which was founded in 2006 and is listed on the stock exchange, has its headquarters in Ho Chi Minh City and supplies five authorized dealers. Since September 2007, the company has also been involved in a joint venture with the companies Công ty Vinashin và Sản xuất Thương mại and Công ty Vinashin Nghiệp tàu thủy Việt Nam Tổng công as a fitter for motor vehicles and represents the side of Volkswagen AG itself . The assembly hall covers an area of ​​100 hectares and is one of three companies in the Vinashin-Shinec industrial area in Hải Phong, which was established in September 2006 . Investors from a total of five countries, including Japan , South Korea , the Netherlands and Sweden , provided a sum of 120 million US dollars for the construction of the plant . The last contracts for the joint venture were signed in April of the following year.

In September 2009, three years after the start of construction, work began on the assembly plant. The Volkswagen Tiguan was the first model to be assembled here . In plans to tackle rival Toyota , which is successful in Asia , General Works Council Chairman Bernd Osterloh and CEO Martin Winterkorn have been examining possible locations for possible production of the Volkswagen Amarok in Southeast Asia since September 2010 .
