The Österbergturm is an observation and transmission tower on the Österberg ( 437.9 m above sea level ) in the district of Tübingen in the Baden-Württemberg city of Tübingen, inaugurated on July 3, 1891 as the Kaiser Wilhelm Tower . With its antenna support it is 40 m high.
The tower stands a little southwest of the summit of the Österberg, east of the old and inner city of Tübingen, at a height of about 431 m .
history
In 1963 the city of Tübingen rented the Österbergturm to the Deutsche Bundespost , which installed a television converter on it. For this purpose, the top of the tower was removed and replaced by an antenna carrier. Due to the increasing number of cell phone antennas and the resulting lack of space, the tower was closed to the public at the end of the 1990s, and since then it can only be viewed on request.
