Özer Kanra (* 1938 in Istanbul ) is a former Turkish football player . Through his long activities for Vefa Istanbul and Fenerbahçe Istanbul , he is associated with this club. With the former he also attended the associated high school and with Fenerbahçe he was involved in some important successes in the club's history. Although Kanra's traditional playing position was the offensive, he was used in all positions during his career as needed and was therefore known for his diverse style of play.

Player career

society

Kanra was born in the Fatih district of Istanbul . There he first attended the 15th elementary school (Turkish: 15 inci ilk okul ) and then the Gelenbevi high school. Already at this time he began to play soccer with a tennis ball with his schoolmates during school breaks. After high school, he attended the renowned Vefa grammar school and the Ataturk grammar school. During this time he also started club football and played for the amateur club Yavuz Sultan Selim SK . At this club he was discovered in 1957 for the Turkish U-18 national team and used several times. Through these U-18 international appearances, he was noticed by several talent hunters. With Sabri Kiraz , the head coach of Vefa Istanbul also tried to sign Kanras - the club that was founded by students of the renowned Vefa high school. So he switched to Vefa as a professional player in the summer of 1957.

At the time of his move to Vefa, there was no international professional league in Turkey. Instead, regional leagues existed in metropolitan areas such as Istanbul, Ankara and Izmir , of which İstanbul Profesyonel Ligi (German: Istanbul Professional League ) was considered the most renowned. The three big Istanbul clubs Galatasaray , Fenerbahçe and Beşiktaş played in this league . Vefa was also one of the most consistent members of this league. In this environment Kanra made his professional debut on August 30, 1957 in the league game against Beykozspor . Despite his young age, he quickly gained a regular place and completed 17 out of 18 possible league games by the end of the season.

From the spring of 1959 Kanra and Vefa took part in the newly founded and nationwide Millî Lig (today's Süper Lig). This new league replaced the previous regional leagues in the larger metropolitan areas, such as İstanbul Profesyonel Ligi. The first season of the Millî Lig was played from February 1959 to June 1959 and ended with a win for Fenerbahçe Istanbul . In this first season of the Millî Lig , the championship was played in two rounds. In the first round, the league system was divided into two separate groups. In the second round, the two group winners decided the championship among themselves in a final with a return leg. Kanra took part in the competition with his team in the red group . Here Vefa fought head-to-head with Galatasaray Istanbul for the first place in the group. In the end, the club finished tied behind Galatasaray in second place in the table and missed the opportunity to become the first Turkish football champion. Kanra formed with his strike partners Hilmi Kiremitçi and İsmet Yamanoğlu one of the most successful storm trios in the league and was instrumental in this success, which was to become one of the greatest in the club's history. Kanra was the most successful goalscorer of his team this season with seven league goals. In the second season , in which the league was transferred to a single-track league system, Vefa finished 11th in the table, with Kanra scoring six goals this season.

After Kanra had also spent the 1960/61 season at Vefa, he could not agree with his club on a contract extension due to different salary expectations. In the summer of 1961, he switched to city and league rivals Fenerbahçe Istanbul , thus following his long-time socks off Hilmi Kiremitçi. This left Vefa a season earlier for Fenerbahçe. In his first season for his new club Kanra came to 23 league appearances and scored two goals. With his club he was runner-up in the 1961/62 season behind arch rivals Galatasaray Istanbul . After Kadri Aytaç, another offensive force, had left the club in the summer of 1962 , Kanra came to more stakes. He quickly established himself as a supplementary player and completed 28 league games in the 1962/63 season. With his club he was able to win the Turkish championship in 1963/64 . Kanra conquered a regular place during the season and had to miss the rest of the season in April 1964 due to a meniscus injury. Due to this injury, he was not available to his team again until October 1964, but quickly regained a regular place after his return. In the season 1964/65 he was able to win the Turkish championship again with his team. As a result, his team managed to defend its title in the championship, the first in the club's history. After the season 1. Lig 1965/66 missed the new title defense in the championship, the club management decided to carry out a squad revision and put Kanra on the sales list in addition to players such as Şenol Birol , Hüseyin Yazıcı , Aydın Yelken , İsmail Kurt .

After Fenerbahçe had put Kanra on the sales list in the summer of 1966, he did not leave the club at first. But since he was not used in the first half of the 1966/67 season, he persuaded the club management to loan him to league rivals Karşıyaka SK for the second half of the season , thus following his teammate Şenol Birol. After 13 league games for Karşıyaka, he returned to Fenerbahçe and was kept in the squad for the coming season. In the 1967/68 season he and his team won the Turkish championship and the Turkish Cup for the third time . This made him one of the Fenerbahçes squad that won the first double in club history. Kanra was used in only five league games this season partly due to injury. After this season he was released from Fenerbahçe in the summer of 1968 and negotiated with Sakaryaspor .

National team

Kanra began his national team career in S March 1957 with a commitment for the Turkish U-18 national team and completed five more games by September 1958.

On March 27, 1963 Kanra was nominated by the national coach Bülent Eken as part of a test match against the Italian national team for the first time for the squad of the Turkish national team and completed his first and only senior international match in this encounter.
