Hilmi Kiremitçi (born January 1, 1934 in Plovdiv , † July 20, 2011 in Bandırma ) was a Turkish football player and coach. Through his long activity for Vefa Istanbul , he is very strongly associated with this club, for which he also worked as a coach for several years. During his time at Fenerbahçe Istanbul he was one of the most popular players on his team.

Player career

society

Kiremitçi was born to Rumelia Turks in Plovdiv, Bulgaria . As a child he moved with his mother to the Turkish metropolis of Istanbul . Kiremitçi started his club football career in 1949 in the youth department of Vefa Istanbul .

After the then coaching staff of Vefa SK Kiremitçi not included in the first men's team, this moved to the Istanbul club Davutpaşa SK . At this club he quickly drew attention to himself and received offers from several clubs of the İstanbul Profesyonel Ligi , the most renowned league in Turkey at the time. Here tried his old club Vefa Kiremitçi back and use him for the time being for his second team. In the last instance, however, this change did not materialize. In the summer of 1953, Kiremitçi moved to the then well-positioned İstanbulspor club . Kiremitçi also scored his first goal in his first game for the club. He then stayed almost the entire season without a job. It wasn't until April 1954 that he played again and promptly won a regular place. By the end of the season, he completed all of his team's remaining games. In his second season for Istanbulspor Kiremitçi consolidated his position within the team and was the most successful goalscorer of his team with seven league goals.

In the summer of 1956, his old club Vefa SK submitted a transfer offer to him. Kiremitçi accepted the offer and moved back to his old club. At his new club, he immediately established himself as a service provider. In the season 1956/57 he increased his performance and made it into the Turkish national team . Due to his good performance, several larger clubs in the league tried to commit Kiremitçi. First, Galatasaray Istanbul tried to tie him for the 1957/58 season, but failed due to different salary expectations. Later, Fenerbahçe Istanbul also tried unsuccessfully for Kiremitçi, although he also wanted to change. From the spring of 1959, Kiremitçi and Vefa took part in the newly founded and nationwide Millî Lig (today's Süper Lig). Up to this point in time there was no national league in Turkey, only regional leagues in the larger metropolitan areas, of which İstanbul Profesyonel Ligi (German: Istanbul Professional League) was the most renowned. In the first season of the Millî Lig , the championship was played in two rounds. In the first round, the league system was divided into two separate groups. In the second round, the two group winners decided the championship among themselves in a final with a return leg. Kiremitçi took part in the competition with his team in the red group . Here Vefa fought head-to-head with Galatasaray Istanbul for the first place in the group. In the end, the club finished tied behind Galatasaray in second place in the table and missed the opportunity to become the first Turkish football champion. Kiremitçi formed one of the league's most successful storm trios with his strike partners Özer Kanra and İsmet Yamanoğlu and was instrumental in this success, which was to become the greatest in the club's history. In the second season , in which the league was transferred to a single-track league system, Vefa finished 11th in the table, with Kiremitçi playing a successful season with ten goals this season.

After Kiremitçi had been active for Vefa Istanbul until 1960, he moved to league rivals Fenerbahçe Istanbul for the 1960/61 season . With his new team he took part in the preseason Cemal Gürsel Cup and was used in one of three games. His team finished this tournament as a winner, which Kiremitçi won his first title at club level. Despite the strong competition on the offensive positions at Fenerbahçe with such players as Lefter Küçükandonyadis , Mustafa Güven , Yüksel Gündüz , Kadri Aytaç , Can Bartu , Ergun Öztuna , all including national players, Kiremitçi immediately won a regular place and completed 35 of the possible 38 league games . The season ended his team with the Turkish championship. In his second season he lost his regular place, but still played in 20 of 38 possible league games over the full game length. He quarreled several times with head coach Necdet Erdem and was suspended from the team. Fenerbahçe tried to give up Kiremitçi in the spring of 1962, but was unsuccessful. His team finished the season behind arch rivals Galatasaray as runner-up. In his third and final season at Fenerbahçe, Kiremitçi was almost consistently used by new head coach Miroslav Kokotović in the first few days of play . Later he stayed away from training and was therefore warned by the club's management with a fine of 250 lira. Kiremitçi subsequently apologized for his behavior, but was not reinstated in the team. Instead, the club carried the matter to the Turkish Football Association. In April, however, the club returned to the team.

In the summer of 1963, Kiremitçi returned to his old club Vefa Istanbul after he was last barely used at Fenerbahçe . This club was in the meantime in the summer of 1962 in the newly created nationwide second highest division, in the Türkiye 2. Futbol Ligi , relegated. In the first season of this league finished with his team in 4th place in the table. Kiremitçi was only used in nine of the possible 24 league encounters. In the second season of the second division Kiremitçi managed to quickly become a regular again. With his team he delivered a race for the league championship with Bursaspor over the entire season, which was won at the end of the better goal difference and rose again after two years of abstinence from the first division. Kiremitçi contributed eight goals to this success. Promoted to the 1st Lig, he came to fewer stakes, but was still used regularly. After he came to only five missions in the first division season 1966/67 , he decided to leave the club at the end of the season and possibly end his career.

National team

Kiremitçi was nominated for the first time in February 1957 in the squad of the Turkish national team . Here he made his international debut as part of the Mediterranean Cup game against the Egyptian national team . Kiremitçi scored the last goal in his team's 4-0 win and received consistently positive reviews.

From then on he was one of the regularly nominated players of the national team for two years. In total, he completed one B internationals and 13 A internationals. He played his last international match on October 8, 1961 against the Romanian national team .

Coaching career

After leaving Vefa Istanbul , there was some uncertainty about Kiremitçi's future career. In the summer of 1967 it was announced that Kiremitci would henceforth look after the newly founded third division Lüleburgazspor as head coach and also manage the club's transfers. This setting did not come about later for reasons that were not mentioned.

Instead, he was presented as the coach of the newly founded second division club Sivasspor in April 1967 . He was also the first Sivasspor coach in the club annals. He took over the hiring as a player-coach and was active as a player for another year. Kiremitçi had already looked after his team Vefa Istanbul as a player- coach on an interim basis in 1965 . As the coach of Sivasspor, Kiremitçi witnessed one of the worst tragedies in Turkish football. In the away game on September 17, 1967 against Kayserispor , the team of the sub-province of Kayseri , there were fan disputes between the two groups of spectators in the stands. In the 20,000-seat Kayseri Ataturk Stadium , Oktay Aktan scored the 1-0 for the home team in the 20th minute . Among the 5,000 Sivasspor fans who came to visit, many protested against the validity of this gate. After these fan choirs, riots broke out between the two fan camps. Sivasspor fans noticed during the clashes that an exit gate was open and tried to escape the riot through this gate. This situation triggered a mass panic among the Sivasspor fans and led to a crush among these spectators, as a result of which 43 visitors died and 100 others were injured. This tragedy was reported on the cover of all daily newspapers and went down in Turkish football history as Kara Pazar (German Black Sunday) and Kara Gün (German Black Day). The 2nd league was suspended until further notice and only continued again after two weeks. Kiremitçi experienced the events up close and is deeply affected. The Turkish Football Association imposed Kiremitçi with a five-month suspension, which is why he could only work outside the stadiums. All these circumstances ensured that Kiremitçi fights with his team towards the end of the season for relegation and only reached them in the penultimate game. In the last days of the game they defeated, among other things, the table leaders Izmirspor . At the end of the season he was dismissed from his position as head coach.

For the 1971/72 season Kiremitçi took over his former club, the first division club Vefa Istanbul , as head coach. In his first season with his team he occupied a safe non-relegation place in the league. He achieved the best cup placement in the club's history. In the summer of 1972, he resigned from his position, but was then retuned to continue. While he was fighting to stay up in his second season with Vefa towards the end of the season, his team caused a surprise in the Turkish Football Cup . Here he reached the semi-finals with his team and then retired after two hard-fought semi-finals against Galatasaray Istanbul . During the 1972/73 season, Kiremitçi was replaced by Sefer Türker in November 1972 , but returned to his post after two matchdays and led the Türker team together.

For the 1973/74 season he took over Sivasspor for the second time. After he missed promotion at the end of the season, Kiremitçi moved to the new season for the third division Bandırmaspor . He led this club to the championship of the third division season 1974/75 and thus to promotion to the Türkiye 2. Futbol Ligi . After this success, however, he found no agreement with the club's board for further cooperation. For the 1976/77 season Bandırmaspor took over again and resigned here in March 1977 from his office.

In the summer of 1980 he took over at the club Vefa Istanbul, which had meanwhile been relegated to the second division. Simtel became the main sponsor of this club in August 1980, which is why the club name was renamed Vefa Simtel SK . For the 1981/82 season he coached Davutpaşa SK , with the club he started his football career.

For the 1982/83 season he was hired by the second division Beykozspor . He left this club after eight match days.

In 1986 Kiremitçi became another Nal trainer at Vefa Simtel. In 1987 he trained again Bandırmaspor , but was released during the winter break.

death

Kiremitçi fell ill with lung cancer in 2005 and died on July 20, 2011 in Bandırma of the consequences of this disease, after he had previously tried to conquer his disease with various therapies. He was buried on the day of his death after the midday prayer in the Bandırma market mosque in Erdek .
