Ōe Sueo ( Japanese 大江 季 雄 ; * August 2, 1914 in Maizuru ; † December 24, 1941 in front of Luzon ) was a Japanese athlete of Korean descent who was successful as a pole vaulter in the mid-1930s . Since Korea was then subordinate to the Japanese General Government as Chosen Province , it had to start for Japan and use the Japanese spelling of its name.

Life

Ōe won three international medals:

• In 1934 he won the Far East Championships in Manila with 3.96 m.
• In 1935 at the International University Games (forerunner of the Universiade ) in Budapest , he finished second behind Shūhei Nishida (winner with 4.30 m) and in front of the German Wolfgang Hartmann (third with 4.00 m) with a performance of 4.10 m .
• In 1936 at the Olympic pole vault competition of 1936 in Berlin , he was third behind the victorious American Earle Meadows (4.35 m) and his compatriot Shuhei Nishida (also 4.25 m) with a jump of 4.25 m.

During his sports career he studied at Keiō University .

Ōe Sueo succumbed to his injuries in the Japanese attack on Luzon during World War II . The ship's doctor in charge was his older brother.
