Ɨ (lower case ɨ) is a letter of the Latin writing system , consisting of an I with a slash .

In the international phonetic alphabet , the ɨ stands for the unrounded closed central vowel . It is included in the Africa alphabet and is used, for example, for the Budu spoken in the Democratic Republic of the Congo . In Mexico , the letter is used for Mixe and the Mixtec languages, and in Papua New Guinea for Angave , where however it denotes the Schwa (IPA: ə ).

Unicode contains the capital Ɨ as U + 0197 latin capital letter i with stroke in the block Latin, extended-B and the small ɨ as U + 0268 latin small letter i with stroke in the block IPA extensions .
