Ștefan Pop

Ștefan Pop (* 1987 in Bistrița ) is a Romanian opera singer with a tenor voice .

Life

Ștefan Pop completed his vocal studies at the Gheorghe Dima Music Academy in Cluj-Napoca . He was the first prize winner of several international singing competitions and gained his first opera experiences as Paolino in Il matrimonio segreto at the Hungarian Opera in Cluj-Napoca and as Nemorino in L'elisir d'amore at the Romanian National Opera in Timișoara .

In December 2009 he made his international debut as Alfredo La traviata under Gianluigi Gelmetti at the Teatro dell'Opera di Roma . He also sang this role at the Greek National Opera in Athens, the Vienna State Opera , the opera houses of Trieste , Genoa and Palermo , the Hamburg State Opera (with Edita Gruberová ), in the ruins of Sanxay , the Opera Națională Bucureşti , the Frankfurt Opera and the Israeli Opera in Tel Aviv.

The lyrical tenor's repertoire is relatively narrow and centered on three prime roles - Nemorino, Alfredo and the Duca di Mantova in Verdi's Rigoletto . He also sang Nemorino in 2010 at the Teatro Giuseppe Verdi in Trieste and at the Hamburg State Opera, in 2012 at the Opéra de Lausanne and at the Royal Opera House in London, and in 2014 at the Opéra de Monaco . He sang Duca di Mantova for the first time at the Seoul Opera , then at the Paris Opera , and finally at the Deutsche Oper am Rhein in Düsseldorf and Duisburg, at the Teatro Carlo Felice in Genoa and at the Teatro San Carlo in Napoli, and at the Hamburg Opera State Opera.

In 2011 Pop made his role debuts as Elvino in La sonnambula at the Vienna State Opera and as Cassio in Verdi's Otello at the Zurich Opera House , in 2013 as a singer in Der Rosenkavalier (again in Zurich), and in 2014 as Gounods Faust in Rijeka and Hong Kong and as Rudolfo in Puccinis La Bohème in the Salle Pleyel in Paris. In 2014 he was invited to be the singer in Harry Kupfer's monumental Rosenkavalier production at the Salzburg Festival .

The tenor was heard on the concert podium with almost all Romanian orchestras ( Bucharest , Târgu Mureș , Iași , Timișoara and Oradea ). In March 2009 he sang the tenor solo in the world premiere of György Kurtágs Colinda balada (op. 46) with the orchestra of the Filarmonica de Stat Transilvania of Cluj-Napoca. In concerts with Angela Gheorghiu in Seoul and Shanghai he delighted the audience with hits like 'O sole mio or Che gelida manina .
