(16524) Hausmann is an asteroid of the main belt , which was discovered on January 17, 1991 by the German astronomer Freimut Börngen at the Thuringian State Observatory Tautenburg ( IAU code 033) in the Tautenburg Forest in Thuringia .
The asteroid is a member of the Hertha family, a group of asteroids named after (135) Hertha .
It was named on March 9, 2001 after the German writer , journalist and lay preacher Manfred Hausmann (1898–1986), who became famous thanks to his numerous essays, poems, the well-read "Martin stories" and, last but not least, his sermons.
