(2163) Korczak is an asteroid of the main outer belt that was discovered on September 16, 1971 at the Crimean Observatory in Nautschnyj ( IAU code 095). Unconfirmed sightings of the asteroid had already taken place several times, including on December 14, 1949 (1949 XK), September 27, 1954 (1954 SP 1 ) and November 25, 1960 (1960 WR) at the Goethe Link Observatory in Indiana .

The asteroid belongs to the Themis family, a group of asteroids named after (24) Themis . The timeless (non- osculating ) orbital elements of (2163) Korczak are almost identical to those of the two smaller ones, assuming the absolute magnitude of 16.5 and 16.1 compared to 11.7, asteroids (329071) 2011 BO 8 and ( 337879) 2001 WV 67 .

The mean diameter of the asteroid was calculated to be 24.368 km (± 0.192) and the albedo to be 0.075 (± 0.016).

(2163) Korczak was named on April 1, 1980 after the Polish doctor , educator and children's book author Janusz Korczak , who died in 1942 in the Treblinka extermination camp .
