(22299) Georgesteiner is an asteroid of the central main belt discovered on April 15, 1990 by the Belgian astronomer Eric Walter Elst at the La Silla Observatory of the European Southern Observatory in Chile ( IAU code 809). The asteroid had already been sighted in April 1974 under the provisional designations 1974 HK 1 and 1994 HZ at the Chilean observatory Cerro El Roble .

(22299) Georgesteiner was named on June 2, 2015 after the writer , literary scholar and cultural critic George Steiner . His work from 1975, “After Babel. Aspects of Language and Translation ”(published in German translation as Nach Babel. Aspects of Language and Translation ).
