(2326) Tololo ( 1965 QC ; 1931 RZ ; 1936 SF ; 1941 SF 2 ; 1969 MB ; 1973 GH 1 ; 1979 MB ) is an asteroid of the outer main belt that was found on August 29, 1965 as part of the Indiana Asteroid Program on the Goethe- Link Observatory in Brooklyn , Indiana ( IAU code 760). A total of 119 asteroids were discovered by the Indiana Asteroid Program.
designation
(2326) Tololo was named after the Cerro Tololo Inter-American Observatory , which is located about 80 km east of La Serena in Chile and was founded on November 23, 1962. It is funded by the National Science Foundation and operated by the Association of Universities for Research in Astronomy (AURA). The name was suggested by the American astronomer Frank K. Edmondson .
