(2476) Andersen is an asteroid of the outer main belt with a mean diameter of 20.695 (± 0.939) kilometers, which was discovered by the Soviet astronomer Nikolai Tschernych on May 2, 1976 at the Crimean Observatory in Nautschnyj ( IAU code 095). There had already been unconfirmed sightings of the asteroid: on August 27, 1935 (1935 QH 1 ) at the Union Observatory in Johannesburg , on April 20, 1939 (1939 HD) at the Heidelberg-Königstuhl State Observatory and on December 25, 1973 (1973 YC 3 ) at the Crimean Observatory in Nautschnyj.
The mean diameter of the asteroid was calculated to be 20.695 (± 0.939) km and the albedo to be 0.150 (± 0.024).
The asteroid belongs to the Eos family , a group of asteroids which typically have large semiaxes from 2.95 to 3.1 AU , bounded inward by the Kirkwood gap of the 7: 3 resonance with Jupiter , and orbital inclinations between 8 ° and 12 °. The group is named after the asteroid (221) Eos . The family is believed to have emerged from a collision more than a billion years ago. The timeless (non- osculating ) orbital elements of (2476) Andersen are almost identical to those of the smaller, if one assumes the absolute brightness of 15.4 compared to 11.1, asteroids (324849) 2007 LN 6 .
(2476) Andersen was named on July 2, 1985 after the Danish poet and writer Hans Christian Andersen .
