(3008) Nojiri ( 1938 WA ; 1951 DC ; 1972 YG 1 , 1973 AR 2 , 1977 TW 4 ) is an asteroid of the outer main belt , which on 17 November 1938 by German (then Nazi state ) astronomer Karl Wilhelm Reinmuth on the State Observatory Heidelberg-Königstuhl was discovered on the western summit of the Königstuhl near Heidelberg ( IAU code 024). It belongs to the Themis family , a group of asteroids named after (24) Themis .
designation
(3008) Nojiri was named after the Japanese writer Hoei Nojiri (1885–1977). After starting his career as an English teacher, he wrote many books based on his study of the mythology and ethnology of stars . His books inspired many professional astronomers in Japan. The naming was suggested by the Japanese astronomer Takeshi Urata and supported by the Japanese astronomer Yoshihide Kozai .
