(30797) Chimborazo is an asteroid of the main central belt . It was discovered on February 4, 1989 by the Belgian astronomer Eric Walter Elst at the La Silla Observatory of the European Southern Observatory in Chile ( IAU code 809).
The asteroid belongs to the Eunomia family, a group named after (15) Eunomia , to which probably five percent of the asteroids in the main belt belong. The ageless (not osculating ) orbital elements of (30797) Chimborazo are almost identical with those of the smaller, if one of the absolute brightness starting from 16.4 compared to 14.3, asteroids (363608) 2004 FS 148 .
(30797) Chimborazo was born on 12 March 2017 after the Ecuadorian stratovolcano Chimborazo named.
