(3617) Eicher is an asteroid of the main belt , which on 2 June 1984 of US astronomers Brian A. Skiff at the Anderson Mesa Station ( IAU code 688) of the Lowell Observatory in Coconino County was discovered.

The asteroid was named after the American amateur astronomer and editor of the magazines Astronomy and Deep Sky David J. Eicher (* 1961), who also wrote several books on the American Civil War .
