(40106) Erben is an asteroid of the main belt that was discovered on August 20, 1998 by the Czech astronomer Petr Pravec at the Ondřejov observatory ( IAU code 557) on the Manda mountain in Ondřejov .
The asteroid was on 6 January 2003 after the Czech archivists, historians and writers of romance Karel Jaromír Erben named (1811-1870), best known as a collector of Czech folk tales and folk songs.
